I got a CTD yesterday. How does the cloud function work? I can enable it without the FPS funtions above.

I have alot of stutters after 1 hour flight at cruise with heavy cloud cover so i suspect clouds is killing my performance.

Thanks Michael Moe

If you want to use the cloud function without changing the LODs, just set the reduce TLOD/OLOD by to both be zero and enable decrease cloud quality, so that when your FPS trigger is activated, the LODs will stay the same but the clouds will drop in quality by one. Also consider setting a cloud recovery FPS betwen 5 and 10 so that it doesn't constantly switch in and out of FPS adaption from the cloud quality drop increasing your FPS.

Thanks but i dont follow. I have VSYNC on and want on heavy clouds cover to take over. I cant see the ground any way so tlod and olod could be 0.

How does the cloud recovery FPS works? Only in tandem with FPS function above?

May a screen dump with an explanation

Thanks for this great software

I thought you said you wanted to use cloud quality reduction without changing LODs and that's what I explained above, which would look like this:

image.png?ex=65d9b964&is=65c74464&hm=c2e

ie my LODs stay the same at 100/100 but cloud quality dropped by 1 to high. Is that what you're after?

Thanks Michael Moe

Delay start is how many seconds to wait before it acts on an FPS drop below the trigger level. This is to stop the app triggering on a transient FPS drop. Default is 1 second but I now use 2 seconds.

Reduce for is how many seconds it must stay above the target FPS before recovering, again so it doesn't turn off on a transient high FPS reading.

Recovery FPS is as described above. Basically when you drop your cloud quality you can gain quite a lot of FPS but you don't want it to turn off that cloud quality reduction because it has now gone above the trigger FPS, so you set a recover FPS, which adds to the target FPS and becomes the new target to cancel of FPS adaption. eg. with the screen shot I posted, it takes a drop below 30 FPS to activate FPS adaption but it takes 30 + 10 = 40 FPS before it will come out of it. Again this stops constant activation/deactivation of FPS adaption if your FPS are sitting very close to the trigger FPS.

Might be an idea to add these (excellent) explanations to the GitHub page in it's own section, as it can be a pain scrolling through these many pages trying to find what you're looking for 😄thanks

Yes I do need to update the readme section on github, which I'll do when 0.3.7 gets formally released, not that anyone actually reads it.😄

BTW, have you installed the latest test version and, if so, can you tell me whether my new version info and link to github works? Thanks.

Just downloaded the latest test version and yes clicking the link the app takes you to the (current) latest official version 3.6.0

You have to host your screenshots somewhere else and link them in unfortunately. Most of us are on Discord so you can do what I did and activate your own server, put your screenies in one of your text channels then copy the links and paste them here. A bit of a pain, but not too hard to do once you get used to it.

no problem, maybe add a second link like "For information on the features click here" and that leads you to the description page? (when you've done it!)

The new features will be summarised on that latest version page and I will be updating the readme on the main page too.

Here is the latest, and hopefully final, test version of 0.3.7 for those that want to check it out and provide feedback if any issues are encountered.

Latest changes (10Feb24 1040Z):

  • Compatibility checker - the app will now check whether the correct MSFS memory addresses are in use and, if not, will search for where they have been relocated and update your config file accordingly. This should mean there is no need to update this app when SU15 comes out, even if its memory map changes like it has done previously.

Previous test versions:

  • Update checker - I am pretty confident I have the new update available checker code functioning correctly and just need a couple of people to verify that it detects 0.3.6 as the latest formal release and that the update link takes you to my github latest release page here, which is currently 0.3.6.
  • Log file cleanup - disabled mobisim exit code that causes spurious exceptions and log file entries until I can work out what the issue is. Nil impact to MSFS or app functionality as it only happens when exiting MSFS where neither program no longer cares about previously shared variables anyway.
  • FG detection - When FG is detected as active, the FPS reading is doubled and FPS Adaption works off that doubled FPS value, otherwise with FG turned off, using DX11 or in VR your FPS should show and work as normal. Enhanced to show correct FPS drop when MSFS window loses focus and FG gets disabled while ever MSFS is not the focused app (normal FG behaviour).
  • App already running check - has been extended to check whether the original DynamicLOD or DynamicLOD_ResetEdition are currently running and exit if either are detected.
