MSFS Auto FPS App

An issue I found with  MSFS2020_Auto 0.4.1 is the ability to remove it from my machine. I installed it to a named file. I thought by simply deleting the entire file structure, reboot my machine would remove the app. However, I find the little guy is a bit illusive to actually find its roots enabling me to remove it, then place in a better location. Every time MSFS2020fires up, so does this app.

If the issue is uninstalling it, the easiest method is to just run the installer again then choose uninstall. If you need to move residual files/folder, Reset (the dev) explained how to do this recently in the new AutoFPS thread (sorry I don’t have the exact location for the post)

When you deleted t he folder it was in, did you check to make sure the folder was actually removed. The problem I had was, it would not delete the folder, until I restarted the PC, then I could delete the folder after the restart. If it continues to start up, my guess is the folder was still there.

If you couldn't delete the folder, you were mostly likely still running the app and had it minimised to the system tray.

As @Cpt_Piettsays, there is no need to be deleting any folders manually. Just exit the app completely, run the installer and select remove.

I  posted the other day that I was having a stutter problem with the latest version of this app, and I read one or two other post where they had a similar problem ( where these posts disappeared to is a mystery).

Anyway, I got to thinking that any time I had a stutter problem on short final, it usually turned out to be a sever problem, not my rig. Since the posts talking about stutters, all occurred in a short time, I thought , maybe we all had a server problem. Anyway, I reinstalled 4.2, and did two flights today, everything worked perfectly, and no stutters.

Well, my enjoyment and testing has been halted again. This time, slow loading scenery and giant tiles popping in constantly Infront of me. It looks as if my tlod is at 75 at 4000ft, but its certainly not, its at 250.  Again.... not the app, its probably the darn servers again.

MSFS is so god darn switchy!!   And building have been nuked again!

Anyone else having this issue?

Just trying to start a flight from KBTV, it is taking forever to load. Got to be a server problem.

Whoops, my bad. I had restarted PC and forgot to start Map Enhancement mod.

but to achieve 72hz/72fps I would need to run way under my conditioned and cosy super-duper graphics.

Correct, MR (SSW or ASW) is unavoidable to get 72Hz or 80Hz. I aim for 80Hz. I couldn't make link work well, maybe it's my cable. But VD works amazingly well for me. AV1 codec (Quest 3) with 130mbps bitrate gives me no noticeable latency (reported latency is in the 60s but I don't feel it). I see no compression artifacts whatsoever, the image is perfect. SSW was not impressive when the PC struggled, but now I don'e see the artifacts, none at all, though I hadn'e tried blue skyes for any length of time.

Have you experimented with Riva-tuner on fps lock (on/off), and with turbo mode on/off via xrtoolkit - and do you notice your half refresh rate headset lock (36/40/45) fluctuates by +1.  I get a 36-37. Turbo seems to work better in some planes, and not others. And rivatuner the same. Ive taken to writing down my experiences now, because of the huge number of variables.

I run RTSS locked at 41.

Turbo = ON in OXRTK seems to be important for reducing stutters. Despite the warning of breaking MR, SSW still works fine. When I had Reverb G2 it did break MR.

With latest test version (auto-fps), I am still currently experimenting.  Its obvious to us both, that we need a fairly chucky "headroom fps zone" ahead of 36 (or half refresh) in order not to get sucked under our caps. If we do....well, it aint pretty is it.

Can you share your AutoFPS settings, maybe a screenshot? I wonder what works for you and how it compares with mine (shared earlier)...

Yeah, I get that a lot. Using a VPN alleviates it somehow. Sometimes I'm lucky with no issues for several flights in a row. Other times... It's a hit and miss at this stage. Well, at least the scenery is being rendered well (thanks to the app) once it finally flows through my Ethernet cable...

I find that using the Map Enhancer (addon) helps - as it doesn't pull tiles from the Asobo servers.

I've been trying it on and off (mostly off though). Tried it a few weeks ago, and the issue is always the same: the render distance is too short i.e. I always see the default textures in the distance., beyond the ones provided by Map Enhancer. Perhaps after using AutoFPS things could be different, with high TLODs.

Hi Bob, thanks for the reply. I had deleted the installation folder, but it seems it came back empty after reboot. However, the app was still very much alive, so it had squirreled itself somewhere

Using the "everything" app, I found several instances for the MSFS2020_Autofps. Most of them in my C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming and one(MSFS2020_AutoFPS.exe) in the C:\Windows\Prefetch.

I will remove the found instances to see if this removes the app persistence. NOTE: ok, saw where the removal method is to reinstall, and choose uninstall from the installer app. Will try.

NOTE: 2 Ummm, that did not help. when I run the installer again, I can see the REMOVE caption. Clicking this bring up the comment, Please stop MSFS2020_AutoFPS and try again. How do I stop it. I see the little dog icon in my taskbar, but there is nothing to say STOP. Also trying to remove instances of it in my system, says Nah...its still open in another program etc

Maybe the author could provide a 'how to remove this app if required" on the install process.

@Reset XPDR

Not sure if I understand, but running the installer will provide the option of uninstalling:

Quote

To uninstall, run the installer and select remove on the first window. This will remove all traces of the app, including the desktop icon, MSFS or FSUIPC autostart entries if you used them, and the entire app folder, including your configuration file.

But  you have to turn it on before you start MSFS, otherwise MSFS won't load.

@Reset XPDRcould we get "pause when MSFS loses focus" as an option on the screen if expert options is not selected?
