Hello, I'm having problems with MSFS Auto FPS. I updated from 0.4.2.16 to 0.4.5.0 yesterday,
and SimConnect fails. I uninstalled and reinstalled SK in dev mode, deleted the folders in
packs and in community (mobilflight),
and updated the installation file to create new config files. Nothing helps.
I noticed that there's no log folder in the appdata roaming directory under MSFS_AutoFPS.
I have no idea how that could be. Please help. Without MSFS AutoFPS, life is only half as good xD

- i have the mfs 2020

- i install also the newest version but still same issue > 0.4.5.1-test13

Normally I solve the problem but now I'd rather wait for the people who really know what they're doing before I break something ^^

case closed XDD.  In the log there was something from 31 .. it was the Mobiflight file that wasn't recognized because of a lack of authorization from the community folder >< when I checked it was easy because I'm already working with Addons Linker. everything works as it should! great thanks for this awesome addon Reset XPDR 🤩

Hey everyone! I have been going through this thread and couldn't quite find the answer. I'm also having an issue where I set cloud quality in the msfs settings to high, and even though its not enable in autofps, my quality is being adjusted to medium. Am I missing a setting? Or is this how autofps is supposed to work now?

Updated to most recent version.

If you are using non-Expert mode, here's how it works per the readme:

Quote

Decrease Cloud Quality

  • enabled by default and uses the GPU load activation method if GPU-Z is found to be running, otherwise the TLOD activation method is used.
  • can be disabled by setting DecCloudQNonExpert to false in the app config file located in the app's root, NOT bin, directory.
  • GPU load activation method decreases cloud quality with greater than 98% GPU load and recovers with less than 80% GPU load.
  • TLOD activation activation method uses a Cloud Recovery TLOD 2/5 between TLOD Minimum and TLOD Maximum or + 50 over TLOD Min, whichever is lower. If excessive changing of cloud quality levels are detected, the app will automatically increase its calculated cloud recovery TLOD

If you are using Expert mode, just uncheck Decrease Cloud Quality and it will not control the clouds.

The only other possibility is that you are changing the cloud quality setting in MSFS while in a flight session with AutoFPS already running, as it is controlling that setting then. If so, refer to the FAQ entry on this:

My default MSFS graphics settings are messed up and each time I try to change them back they get messed up again. How do I fix this?

  • You are likely trying to change these default MSFS settings while the app is still running and you are in an active flight, where the app will override any such changes you try to make.
  • Either exit the app completely or be in the MSFS main menu (ie. NOT in a flight), then you can go to the MSFS settings screen and change your default MSFS settings to what you want and the app will restore these at the conclusion of a flight session or upon exiting.

Nice. First time flying in the sim without it crashing. 777-300 out of KJFK and all was well. Looking forward to a better than 60hz monitor so I can enjoy frame generation.

MSFS_AutoFPS version 0.4.5.1 has just been formally released and is available for download here. Thanks to those who participated in the test phase of this release, particularly the regular testers over on github.

While this release started out to provide fixes for a few minor app window visibility issues, it later introduced a much more significant improvement in the app's resilience to transient FPS events, especially with MSFS 2024 which has recently been plagued by performance dips on approach and landing. As such, I strongly recommend upgrading to this version and also try auto settings reduction again if you had stopped using it with previous versions because you thought it was too sensitive, as that is now no longer the case.

Executive Summary

Smarter FPS smoothing, reliable window behavior, and improved stability deliver a smoother and more resilient user experience.

Summary of Changes

Average FPS Improvements: Introduced smarter FPS smoothing (FPS+) to filter out brief performance spikes and dips that previously would have triggered unnecessary settings changes.

App Window Visibility Fixes: Ensured the app window stays visible and correctly positioned, especially after updates or restarts.

General Improvements: Added resilience to small FPS drops, improved debug and test logging, and fixed crashes from quirky double-clicks.

Please review the updated readme here, which provides a detailed description of the app, installation, features and settings, before asking any questions or raising any issues about the app.

For anyone interested, the following is a canned test run of raw FPS data showing how the new FPS+ responds to transient events compared to 0.4.5.0 and demonstrates this much improved resilience. You can see FPS+ follows the normal average but does not get baited at all by large FPS changes lasting less than 3 seconds, which is representative of how MSFS 2024 can currently behave. In contrast, the average FPS in 0.4.5.0 would have followed them every time:

Here is another canned data run, this time with FPS capped at 55 to show how well it works in a capped FPS scenario also:

Hey all!

Does anyone know yet how this tool will get impacted, if at all, with the new LOD system seen in the latest SU3 Beta?

I quit using Auto FPS with the latest Beta build. The Dynamic Settings turned “On” now works very well. I could not find a happy medium between visual fidelity and performance at ground level even with using Auto FPS. The revisions to the LOD Curves really caused performance issues for me when below 1,000 feet AGL, but above that all was good. But with Dynamic enabled, everything looks fantastic at ground level while maintaining FPS. It’s still early with this build so more time in the air could change my perspective, but this where it stands for now.
