Are you aware this is how FSUIPC was created many years ago? It takes a very clever person to disassemble a executable and analyse the contents. The original UIPC was created by Adam Zofran and then P

Stupid question: if I close the app inflight or during an active MSFS session, does it revert the values to what I have in the settings or does MSFS need a restart then? Then: I configured the app as such that it gets fired up when starting MSFS via exe.xml. Can this be undone without reinstallation and fiddling around manually in the exe.xml?

Not a stupid question. Once successfully installed, it's possible to close (and start) the app inflight with no negative consequences. It'll save the app settings until next time you use it. MSFS settings should go back to pre-app use, if that makes sense.

It's possible to remove the auto-start entry from exe.xml, if you feel confident about editing that file. Otherwise, a reinstall will give you the option of non auto-start.

---

Using the latest test build in non-expert mode. It seems that it will not pause when MSFS loses focus. I often switch to expert mode to enable auto-pause when I'm in cruise, as I then leave the flight deck for a while to check Avsim etc.

Just saw this from the release version (0.4.1) readme:

Quote

It has an easy to use GUI and provides features such as:

  • Automatic pause when MSFS loses focus option, particularly useful if using FG due to varying FPS when MSFS gains or loses focus

Use Expert Options

  • Pause when MSFS loses focus - enabled in current version but will be disabled in the next version

MSFS Settings

  • Pause when MSFS loses focus - This will stop TLOD and, if applicable, cloud quality from changing while you are focused on another app and not MSFS. It is particularly useful for when using FG as the FG active and inactive frame rate can vary quite considerably and because FG is not always an exact doubling of non-FG FPS. When expert settings are disabled, the app will disable this setting.

Changes in 0.4.1:

  • Changed non Use Expert Settings default for Auto pause to be off instead of on.

So I assume that auto-pause defaults to off in the latest test version as well.

So we have actually 4 diffrent lod apps. Im not able to keep up with these.

In order with release date
1) Fragtaly's DynamicLOD https://github.com/Fragtality/DynamicLOD

2) ResetXPDR's DynamicLOD_ResetEdition https://github.com/ResetXPDR/DynamicLOD_ResetEdition

3) ResetXPDR's AutoFPS https://github.com/ResetXPDR/MSFS2020_AutoFPS

4) Meesh Trax's Smooth Flight https://sites.google.com/view/meeshtrax/smooth-flight-app

So, is there diffrences? You have time and passion to test them all.

Not quite correct.

The first one was MSFS_AdapativeLOD by muumimorko (https://github.com/muumimorko/MSFS_AdaptiveLOD) - which is defunct now because not updated to the SU's released after it.

BUT: without it we would not have anything of the Tools thereafter. That Developer found the original Mechanic to change the xLOD Values dynamically in Memory by either Altitude/AGL or FPS. Even the original Icon comes from that Project.

So if anything, we need to thank muumimorko.

Yes i know muumimörkö. He made adaptiveLOD by my idea and request. The name and idea was all from me. I did even arrange funding and we donated some money for Muumimörkö to buy MSFS. First version of AdaptiveLOD was handed to me 1.5 years ago. Worked like a charm, but needed cheatengine. Next versions were better. We did abandon plans to release it, because it did brake after every sim update. So Muumimörkö did release it in Github instead.

We had other projects also, but Muumimörkö is very busy men, didnt have time to work with the project where there could be nametags on FSLTL and GAmod models. We started it tough. He made me one Quick addon still: auto bypass "new controllers detected" popup, so there is no need anymore to press ok when controller or yoke are connected via usb during gameplay.

Awesome, didn't know that!

Thanks to you both for making our Sims run so much smoother 😃

The simplest way is to rerun the installer for the version you currently have, choose the "remove auto-start" option and click update.

EDIT: Just saw this from the release version (0.4.1) readme:

Yes I changed it recently to default to off as inexperienced users were confused why the app wasn't showing values changing while the app had the focus, despite the status line showing PAUSED. The pausing feature was mainly created for FG users so that TLOD doesn't hunt when changing MSFS focus because FPS doesn't always exactly halve or double when that happens, but that's really only an issue if you are constantly doing this.

In your case, I wouldn't worry about using pause if you are switching out from MSFS for a while as it doesn't take long for TLOD to catch up to where it is supposed to be and being at cruise means you won't see any marked scenery changes while it is doing this.

Here is AutoFPS working with FSdesktop: https://youtu.be/zePPZOh0hAg?si=RR_rhDIrg-e7rCiy  There is no need to open app window, it works inside of MSFS toolbar (FSdesktop) that is designed for VR, but works in 2d also.

I haven't seen the app being used with FSDesktop, so thanks for sharing that. I am also pleased that someone is using the original full auto TLOD everywhere mode ie. TLOD Min on ground/landing unchecked. Since I started using DX12 recently for most of my testing, I stopped using this mode as I was getting tearing of ground textures at airports much more often, but I am glad someone is still using it.

What do we think the chances of this working with MSFS2024 are?

It’s such a game changer. I can’t imagine flying without it. Really worried that it will have a limited shelf life.

I'm afraid Microsobo would rather dig trenches with a spoon than collaborate with skilled developers with ground-breaking ideas that improve MSFS. However, they did bring WT aboard, so you'll never know.

I do wish that their attitude towards freelance developers would be more flexible and even welcoming though. I really don't think their paranoid isolationist approach will boost their reputation in the long run.

They don't even need to involve me directly. The code is right there on github for them to see how exactly how to do it and they are free to use it, or at the very least the logic behind it. In fact, doing this internally in MSFS would be much easier IMO as they would know exactly when is the appropriate time to change settings on the fly whereas my app has to do it somewhat blindly.
