How to get the best image quality using DLDSR+DLSS

Was it? I guess the trap that I fell into was big enough to fit more people 😅

The little blurb under the Description for DSR - Factors is just a wee bit cryptic, considering you can choose the resolution in MSFS it seems like it ought to work.  Heck I thought it was working all along, by just choosing it in NVCP 3D settings!  It would have helped had they mentioned this lil' tip in that Description.

Right now TAA @ 130 is pretty dang good and w/o the hassle and artifacts that come with DSR.  I had it at 150 but when we hit certain kinds of clouds that's all she wrote!  But 130 was fine in those same clouds and on the ground anywhere GPU is still only about 60%, low 80% in those kinds of clouds.

I don't believe it's only for 40 series. You don't see the following option in your Nvidia Control Panel? Manage 3D Settings -> Global Settings -> DSR Factors?

found it, thx. looked at the wrong place initially

If that's your experince, go for it. In mine, the drain on the GPU is much worse with TAA and RS 130. Here's a chart I put together earlier in this thread: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/642554-how-to-get-the-best-image-quality-using-dldsrdlss/?do=findComment&comment=5070075

I've had a chance to play with RS settings from 110 to 130 and performance-wise I"m not sure yet.  Do you have a sense of the relative impact on the CPU main thread for DSR v RS?

The only relative difference that I examined was the difference that I showed in the chart that I posted earlier in this thread. @Cpt_Piett and other who analyze the frame by frame statistics might know better than I.

From what you were testing it looks like CPU impact was essentially the same for all options

Agreed. It was a GPU hit.

I do not see DLDSR option in my NCP. I read that I have to change screen resolution down to 60 for it. Based on what I have found, I do not have to do all those steps if I have 4K TV with 144Hz refresh rate and and RTX 4090. I am just upscaling 4k to 4k unless I am missing something. With my current setting in MSFS (TAA, DLSS FG-On, V-SYNC -On, DX 12) I have clear image quality and fps around 70-80 in PMDG and Fenix. The sim is smooth. I am not sure if I really have to anything else.

Here's a post earlier in this thread about where to enable DSR. https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/642554-how-to-get-the-best-image-quality-using-dldsrdlss/?do=findComment&comment=5070804.

Once you have done that, you need to change your monitor resolution in NCP to the same resolution and your sim resolution to the same resolution. There are many moving pieces to this, especially if you follow the OP's guide that goes into enabling Ultra Quality (which I have done thanks to the guide). This option of DSR is not for those who want to set and forget though.

I do not have that option in that location. May be because I use my TV as PC monitor in NCP settings. If I change it back to TV in NVC everything looks terrible and max refresh rate is 60.

I’m not entirely sure what you’re not seeing. Enabling DLDSR resolutions in the sim is a 3-step process:

1. Enable DLDSR in NCP under manage 3D-setting - global. Select 1.78, 2.25x or both

0pm8aUf.jpg

2. Go to change resolution in NCP and select either 1.78x or 2.25x

3. In MSFS graphics menu, select one of the higher resolutions that corresponds with the one you set in NCP

I’m also using a TV, an 77” OLED.

Which part of this 3-step process do you struggle with?

As  I mentioned above, I do not have DSR option in my NCP. It is just not there. Based on what I have found online, it should be under "NCP under manage 3D-setting - global - right under CUDA GPUs. I do not see it there, that is why I cannot enable DL scaling. I have looked for it everywhere in that location, it is just no there. I did some research, it could be because I have game ready driver, not a studio driver. I am not sure if I have to reinstall the driver to Studio, not to Gaming driver.

@skysurfer thanks for explaining. That is very strange. I’m on game ready driver (the previous version).

Very strange. Someone on Reddit suggested disabling DSC in monitor settings https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/s/eWPsakfbvT

Other people had success by lowering monitor refresh rate.
