I agree. others might struggle with this as well. perhaps Capt_Piett could edit his detailed initial instruction accordingly.

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

  • One benefit of my recent 4090 purchase is that I don't have to keep doing this tweaking anymore, I run my card at 3440x1440 FG TAA and render scale at 130 and the card eats everything I throw at it.

  • This could very well be the case. Anyhow, it's good to have so many options to choose from, but it can also get unnecessarily confusing and complicated. Besides, TAA is quite old now, whereas DLSS is

  • Just be aware that this approach also increases the load on VRAM quiet considerably when using 1.78 or even 2.25 times the native resolution. Might be fine for 4090 users, all others might check that

Yeah, I'm certain I won't be the last, as the detail I missed was more buried in a link than in the actual instructions.  No snark to @Cpt_Piett though. Anyone willing to attempt to provide some knowledge to gain some visual and performance improvements are good people! I appreciate the adult exchange between us all until I figured it out.

I thought this was especially true for this very technical thread and SU15 BETA available now! . after re-checking your posts, I found the only reason I didn't stumble across this trap as well was that I had already updated that file last year and simply had forgotten it.😃

I typically don't fall into the "you can gain 2 FPS and increase image quality" type tweaks but I do understand what downscaling means and how it works so this was important to me.

Oh I never even commented on the fact. This worked extremely well for me.. Little to no impact on my performance. I know a 2080 Ti by release date is old but this card was rebadged so much with inconsequential improvements I finally years later got my over priced at the time money out of it.  To think I paid over $1200 for a 2018 GPU and it still holds its own.

You're good my friend. I appreciate it!

Thanks 🍻 I'm happy that you got some results from the ordeal that you went through. Hopefully it wasn't as bad as the 12th century definition of ordeal:

Quote

An ancient test of guilt or innocence by subjection of the accused to severe pain, survival of which was taken as divine proof of innocence.

I'll try to think of a way to rewrite the section as I understand it can be confusing. My inspiration for writing this guide was actually to put a lot of what I've learned from several YT videos as well as researching stuff on the web, into an easy-to-understand, no-nonsense, step-by-step guide.

Btw if anyone has any suggestions re: making the "How to enable ultra quality" section clearer, I'm open for suggestions 🙏

Resplendent! 👌

Ah, the A-10C. Such a weird and at the same time sexy looking aircraft 🙂 I spent quite some time with it in my DCS days. Perhaps I should dig out the HOTAS Warthog and give it a spin.

the A-10 is one of those aircraft that never should have been, but ended up irreplaceable.

Using the dev mode OSD:

                       3840x2160        5461x2880

FPS                62.1                   38.5

Mainthread     16.1ms              24.7ms

GPU                11.7ms              16.9ms

I loaded in iniBuilds' KLAX this morning and tried both of these scenarios out at Ultra Quality (0.80x):

Using the dev mode OSD parked on the East side of the airport and looking all the way down the airport, seeing the runways, without traffic (4k - https://imgur.com/ehL9S2F and 1.78x DLDSR - https://imgur.com/9dH51gm)

                       3840x2160        5461x2880

FPS                50.8                   51.0

Mainthread     19.0ms              18.6ms

GPU                13.7ms              13.3ms

I consider these to be a wash due to the normal fluctuations in the numbers. I have put the images here:

I then ran the same test with PSXT / RealTraffic traffic and here I have it running with 75 planes showing, including 24 parked live and 10 in the air (4k - https://imgur.com/PDB3Uv9 and 1.78x DLDSR - https://imgur.com/M1ozB0R) :

                       3840x2160        5461x2880

FPS                38.8                   31.8

Mainthread     26.4ms              29.4ms

GPU                14.8ms              12.5ms

Not too dissimilar, but a greater difference in FPS than without traffic. Again, as with the prior comparison, these are with the in-sim FPS meter, which doesn't account for the doubling due to frame generation.

I haven't quite figured out how to switch between the DSR factors one does activate in the NVIDIA control panel. How do I know whether 1.78x or 2.25 is used?

@mmcmah Interesting that there's almost no performance impact 4K vs. 1.78x. Mainthread frame time is even lower with 1.78x, lol. Also, that's a good demonstration of how huge impact AI traffic has on mainthread. Which is why I've decided to use 4K when flying into LAX and similar major hubs with traffic. Without AI traffic, I can run 1.78x at iniBuild's LAX, no problem.

@Farlis, after selecting 1.78x and 2.25x in NCP, change the resolution (NCP) and at the top you will see the two DLDSR resolutions. Choose one of these.

Then, in MSFS, you'll have these two resolutions available.

I only have 1.78x enabled, as I find that 2.25x is neither needed nor worth the added overhead. So, in my case it's easy. I get 3840x2160 (my monitor resolution) now second to last in the MSFS resolution choices (where before enabling a DSR resolution it was the last choice) and then below that I get the new 1.78x DSR resolution. If you enable both, you will have two resolutions that are below your monitor's native resolution.

Indeed - that's why I called them a wash! Yes, traffic has a huge hit, but even at these levels, due to frame doubling, I can run at 1.78x and still be happy.

@mmcmah I just tested again difference in FPS 1.78x vs 4K. This time at Rio Intl (no AI traffic). Virtually no difference. So re: my findings at KLAX - doesn't make sense. 63-64 with both resolutions (that's with FG off).
