PILOT POSITION MISALIGNED

A bit yes, I do not remember now what side in my case, and the cockpit is а bit huger than normal, that my Asobo girl copilot cannot reach pedals and cyclic and they have a glitch in their hands sometimes trying to grab it I think hahaha, and I cannot reach all the overhead switches with my arm extended without get up from the seat. The helicopter it is not small in real live, the internal passenger height is 2 meters and I felt that virtually walking inside, though a bit more than real the cockpit in MSFS, I think so.

  • Sorry for the dupe from the official forums, but here are my initial thoughts: Having a blast flying this one tonight. It definitely feels different than the other helicopters I’ve flown in MSFS

Just a few details I’d like to clarify:   - the flight model has been validated by CH47 Pilots and Technicians. She’s a heavy and stable beast and flies as such in the sim - AFCS (Autop

  • Here's the official product page. Given the feature list and apparent quality of the product I was expecting a slightly higher asking price particularly compared to some other helo releases.  I'm plea

PILOT POSITION MISALIGNED

This is an (overly common) issue with new releases.. For some reason the pilot model animations keep breaking.. And this results, not only in a visual anomaly, but also in significant performance stutters in exterior camera.

This is being resolved - we are creating our own custom pilot models.

Measurements are never going to be a perfect 1:1 unless we had a LIDAR 3D scan of the aircraft, which generally we don't have. We do what we can given the few datapoints we have and then extrapolate the rest - there will always be some discrepancies. Cockpit internals is something we generally have zero dimensions for, and therefore has to be made to fit with the other dimensions. I added a few references to our forums here: https://miltechsimulations.talkyard.net/-223/ch47d-dimensions

So maybe is my personal perception of the cyclic handle, seat and overhead buttons sizes, and are a bit big for me in VR, and the cockpit size is ok, really that is not a problem. Really thanks for the clarification and the good work.

I have a question, which hopefully Miltechsimulations can jump in and answer. Is it normal/usual to use the anti-torque pedals to align the nose, or push through turns, when you're in forward flight with a tandem-rotor system? I ask because it seems like there's always a bit of pedal needed to keep the nose straight. And the turn radius always seems very wide (just my observations at 20/30 degrees of bank, not implying the flight model is broken).

If the pedals are a normal part of controlling forward flight and turns, it would be helpful if there was a click-spot to make the cyclic disappear. As-is, it completely blocks the turn and slip indicator. I couldn't find anything definitive on all this so thought I'd ask.

Tandem rotors do require pedals to do coordinated turns. They may also get into a "crab flight position", requiring pedaling to align the nose.

Please also take into consideration that this is a placeholder flight model for the time being, as MSFS won't support tandem rotors natively. So the physics and handling of it may change in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for the quick reply. Following the threads & info on the flight model and sim changes to come, so I definitely expect there will be some changes and tweaks etc. ahead. Should make a great aircraft even better.

I hope you'll consider the clickspot suggestion, making the cyclic disappear. It's always good to be able to glance at the slip indicator when I'm maneuvering, checking the VSI etc. But even using the Tobii Eye Tracker it's just not possible to see the full slip indicator as it's always hidden behind the cyclic.

Interesting walk-through of performance and handling by a Chinook pilot:

He touches on a lot of factors, sounds like he's aware of the limits in MSFS though with the lack of native tandem-rotor support (for now anyway). Good explanation of how the various systems and features work in real life.

The author of the channel has been in touch with the developer in order to improve the Chinook.

  • ADF Bug on the rightmost drum fixed.
  • Added new buildings to RAF Odiham
  • Improved memory consumption and performance on included custom airports.
  • Option to hide rearview mirror added to EFB.
  • Option to fold seats added to EFB.
  • Documentation link and QR code added directly to EFB.
  • Rotor blade animations improved
  • Aera GPS can now be moved to glareshield position, center console position is still available.
  • HSI Localizer and glideslope deviation scales adjusted to correct for offsets.
  • Camera quick views for side door, back ramp, hook door.
  • Fixed bug - after internal load is added, aircraft moves "slightly down", triggering automatic closing of the slide, and not permitting slide to extend again.
  • Added C&D Spots to military compounds US01 and US02
  • Rotor animations improved: Improved rotor blur, as well as collective effect in blur animations. Cyclic effect in rotor animations removed for realism.
  • Fuel Flow Gauge marked as RPM x 100 rather than PPH x 100 fixed
  • Added dirty/dusty livery variations to Army Tan, RAF and Australian Army.
  • Water drop from bucket now possible outside missions with keybind TOGGLE WATER RUDDER
  • US Army Green livery texture fix
  • Adjusted engine shutdown sequence timings.
  • Disabled mixture controls on engines to avoid issues with dying engines in incorrect hardware configurations.
  • FUEL PRESS Caution lights logic revised. Caution lights now extinguish when using XFEED.
  • TRQ readings adjusted further.
  • LAX Fire Mission start location relocated. Issues with fire not visible fixed.
  • Adjusted Yaw MOI to increase stability at high speeds.
  • Increased friction on rotor, rotor now slows down faster in case of engine failure

Good to see the changes going in so quickly. Hopefully there's improvements still to come for the flight model (based on the observations in that video above).

Is it a bit dark the cockpit windows, right?, would be ideal an option to regulate that, I understand that are versions IRL ones darker than others possibly. Really thanks to bring to MSFS this helicopter. Sorry for being so fussy (I am not sure is this word is correct, using a translator for that word from my language: tiquismiquis-quisquilloso) hahaha.

Watching videos now, would be ok to have an option to have those skis in the wheels. Regards.

  • 2 months later...

I picked up the Chinook using the Orbx application on June 5th but I understand there may have been an update since ...then do I have to wait for it to show up on Orbx or can I get it on the Miltech site?

Using LNM with MSFS 2020 and currently the PMDG 737-700 on Windows PC

I am very known with the Chinook since I photograph them a lot in action from very close so I am a bit spoiled here.
Therefor I am sorry to say but I really would have seen that the textures were better on this model. It looks like a Diecast model and a bit cartoon-ish. If only Miltech would look into that.
Mostly I am not so negative but since the Chinook is very close in my heart, I am biased here.
