I have just formally released AutoFPS version 0.4.2.10. You can read about it and download it here. In summary, it is a minor update to 0.4.2 that provides new options to address stuttering issue

As some users have requested, I've added a slightly darker background variant to the 0.4.2.10 release page, the direct link for which is here. The two versions are otherwise identical. A side-by-

Those are some big TLOD jumps, caused mostly by your high TLOD settings. I'll have the new test build ready shortly.

Thanks! Not sure if I'll be using VFR mode into dense areas though, but I'm going to test it, for sure! As always. Btw re: my screenshot above; the issue resolved itself after restarting the app.

FPS FG inactive despite RTSS overlay showing FPS 80, lavender flowers scattered throughout the hills... Like I said it resolved itself after an app restart.

New Test Version 0.4.3.4-test is available here. Apart from a few progressive maintenance fixes it contains, the main reason for this release is the reintroduced VFR mode TLOD automation reduction sliding scale to hopefully give smoother performance down low in VFR mode.

  • Reintroduced sliding scale reduction of TLOD changes in VFR mode between 1000 ft and ground with the reduction starting at 1000 ft. This will hopefully reduce stutters some users have been experiencing with the new VFR mode that they did not experience with the older TLOD automation method that uses the sliding scale reduction.
  • Streamlined FPS settling timer activation logic for FG mode.
  • Changed non-expert mode to always pause on MSFS losing focus when FG is enabled.
  • Added ability to disable remembering app window position in config file for those experiencing window visibility issues with this feature enabled, particularly when autostarting with MSFS. To disable, set the RememberWindowPos line to be false.
  • Added more informative installer error message if auto-start with MSFS option is chosen but EXE.xml doesn't exist, directing the user to the readme file for how to resolve.

Summary of notable changes in 0.4.3.4-test since the 0.4.2 formal release:

  • Reduced TLOD changes in VFR mode on a sliding scale from 1000 ft to the ground.
  • Auto pause will now engage when either active pause or settings menu is brought up in flight.
  • User-selectable TLOD automation method, giving the choice between the new FPS sensitivity (smaller changes more often) and the old FPS Tolerance (larger changes less often) to resolve smoothness issue.
  • App will now remember last window position on startup.
  • Fixed major issue where certain combinations of TLOD Min, Max and Cloud Recovery TLOD could result in an app crash and failure of the app to start again until the config file was deleted.

Whoa, that was quick. Ready at Nice 04R. What would be the best way for me to test this? I'm guessing both tolerance and sensitivity in VFR, switching between them. I'll make a quick video.

I will test it, too. You have my hardware down below but my settings are all over the place

My 0.4.3.3 tests that I did 30 mins ago are probably obsolute, but I'll include them anyway.

0.4.3.3:

0.4.3.4 - both sensitivity and tolerance: https://youtu.be/bRY6H4-jbqk

0.4.3.4 - sensitivity takeoff https://youtu.be/Bsjm82BAzKM

Tolerance takeoff test: mega-stutters when ready for takeoff then Win11 became unresponsive before I had a change to go TOGA thrust. Had to do a forced reboot

After reboot, another test:

0.4.3.4 - tolerance takeoff. Spoiler: MUCH better! https://youtu.be/ZAxiamyF7wY

Look at the frame time graph in the RTSS OSD: flat, which is a very good sign. Currently at 3000ft getting ready for another Nice approach and I've got TLOD 975 and still a flatlined frame time line. Everything is of course smooth, including panning. I'll post a landing video shortly. Still on tolerance.

Not really sure where the stutters in the initial tests came from - perhaps a Win reboot was necessary.

(I'll edit out the videos and delete from my YT channel once @Reset XPDR has seen them)

I find that I check AutoFPS less and less during flights, as I'm confident it's doing its stellar job in the background. I.e. more flying, less testing 😄

I wonder if checking too often has any adverse effect.  So I am predisposed to do the same.  Check much less often, if at all.

On my mental health perhaps 😄 Nah, just kidding, I'm much enjoying being a part of this. Been doing a LOT of testing over the last weeks, but now as things have settled a bit I intend to do much more flying just to enjoy Resets magic. Usually I only check FPS overlay and app when testing - or if I have a suspicion something has gone haywire.

My MSFS settings.

Actually, I could use some of your excellent advice on how to set up for my system. Gsync 4k at 60hz (max). My NVCP are Max performance, unlimited cache, Ultra Low Latency(?), Texture Filtering-Anistrop etc OFF, Threaded ON, Vsync ON.

Thanks for doing those tests. The videos where you fly the drone around show stutters when TLOD is changing or because your ground TLOD is so high and you are moving that camera so quick that it invites stutters at such TLOD settings, even without the app running. You really needed to be actually flying for the algorithms to do their thing properly, so only the last video is the most useful and shows things were quite smooth and graduated, which is what I wanted to verify.

The thing to remember with the old FPS Tolerance is that it would let TLOD change on the ground, which I have since removed because of DX11 and DX12 texture issues, is that it would do most of its TLOD adjusting when you were readying your flight, when you wouldn't normally be skimming scenery in drone cam, so it's probably not a big deal.

Anyway, thanks for putting all that together. I think I will keep the sliding scale change in as it looked pretty good in your takeoff video.

Happy to help 🙂 I'd suggest posting in my DLDSR thread which has turned into some sort of MSFS / NCP settings mega-thread. I'm sure the discussion will help others as well.

Got it re: drone cam. Takeoff was very nice, but unfortunately stutters re-appeared on short final for some reason.

Again your LODs are very high for a PG heavy area. VFR is really meant to be used out in much less complex areas.

I know. Normally I wouldn't use VFR for dense areas, as I mentioned earlier. This was purely for testing purposes. If you'd like I could take a GA to a much less dense area. I'm thinking the Fenix might be ok too as there'll be enough overhead.

Anything specific you'd like me to try? I find that videos are quite efficient in quickly demonstrating vs a very wordy post.
