Will This Be Good Enough for MSFS?

Hey all! I am working with a gaming PC company that is helping me build a new PC. What are your thoughts on the below? This will go with my SAMSUNG 34" Odyssey G85SB Series QD-OLED Ultra WQHD Curved Gaming Monitor.

Coming from an i9-9900k & 3080, I am currently locked at 40fps, but I sometimes have a hard time achieving that with the Fenix and I do get stutters. I feel like it's not smooth. Think I could come closer to 60fps with no stutters with the below? That is my goal 🙂 If I can get ~60 fps and it's smooth in the Fenix, I will be happy!

Motherboard - ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi AM5 (LGA1718) Ryzen 7000 Gaming Motherboard(12+2 Power Stages,DDR5,3xM.2 Slots,PCIe® 5.0,WiFi 6E,2.5G LAN,USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C® Port)

CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core, 16-Thread Desktop Processor

GPU - 4070 TI Super

RAM - G.SKILL Flare X5 Series (AMD Expo) DDR5 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s CL30-38-38-96

Storage - SAMSUNG 990 PRO Series - 2TB PCIe Gen4. X4 NVMe 2.0c - M.2 Internal SSD

PSU -  MSI MAG A850GL 80+G ATX3

Cooler - NZXT KRAKEN 360 (BLACK)

Case - Fractal North Mesh Side

Cheers!

I assume that you are wanting to run MSFS on the new PC @ 3440x1440 resolution?

Correct. Which is also my current res as I'm already using that monitor.

Bearing in mind that MSFS is, and since at least version 5 in the 90s has always been, one of those games where if you run the settings at their highest level, you will always manage to find a way to make it stutter even if you borrow the computer from the Starship Enterprise, that's a good setup. I don't think bumping the card to a 4080 super would be worth the extra cost for the marginal performance improvement you'd get, and the 4090 is insanely expensive. the 4070TiS is the best option on the market right now unless you just have lots of cash sitting around in piles needing to be spent.

Yes, certainly good enough.

I can't say for your CPU because I don't know the AMD CPU series. For the graphics card though, if you are getting a 4070 Ti Super, I don't think that is a huge upgrade over the 3080, especially now that there is a hack for the frame generation for 3000 series cards.  The main advantage of the 4000 series cards was frame generation, but it seems like there is a hack going around that enables frame generation for 3000 series cards and from the thread here at Avsim, people say it works pretty good.

With that hack for frame generation for 3000 series cards, this is what I suggest.  I suggest you wait another 8 to 9 months or so for the 5000 series cards to come out. Specifically, the 5070, when it comes out, should be close to the price you are paying for a 4070 Ti Super.  Except of course, the gap between your 3080 and the 5070, will be much larger than the gap between your 3080 and 4070 Ti Super. Meanwhile, see if that hack for the frame generation works out for you for the next 9 months (please use that 3000 series frame generation hack at your own risk though, any damages to your computer are your responsibility, since it is a hack and it's not officially supported by MSFS - I have a 3060 Ti myself and I have not used this hack yet).

To be honest, I think I have read of very few cases of someone upgrading from a 3080 to a 4070 Ti. It's almost not worth the upgrade, for the money that you spend.  Now if you have a 5070, that would probably be a worthwhile upgrade over the 3080, and I suspect the price of the 5070 is close to what you pay for the 4070 Ti Super today. And I would guess the 5070 will come out by the end of this year (hence you need to wait another 8 to 9 months). From past experience, the 5090 would likely release in September/October, with the 5080 one month after that, and the 5070 roughly one month after the 5080.

Unfortunately I don't have piles of cash sitting around 🙂

The biggest reason why I am upgrading is because I need more VRAM... right now 10gb of VRAM is not enough, I hit that pretty constantly with the Fenix. I have never gotten the FG mod to work and DX12 on my system is horrible and keeps crashing when using the FG mod. the 4070TI S will give me FG AND increase my VRAM to 16GB. Just the extra 6GB of VRAM seems worth it to me.

Be aware of that 16GB VRAM is about limit for 3440x1440, I've seen as much as 15.8 GB usage on my 4090 with my 3440x1440 monitor. and that was before I raised the resolution slider to 120%, and the game will probably not become less graphics demanding in the future.

You are right about that, I was just as happy with my old I9 10900k + 2080TI as I am with my new rig.

I'm not looking for 100+ FPS....I just want stutter free 50-60fps with the Fenix 🙂

As long as you understand that if you fly somewhere like JFK or LAX, you're going to stutter if you have all the sliders to the right...

But I guarantee I could run dual 4090s and find a way to make MSFS stutter if I tried hard enough. 😉

Would love to see if anyone else has similar specs that own the Fenix A320.
