What a Performance Upgrade!

Right but with a 4090 you are shooting yourself in the foot 🙂 I was able to get that type of performance with my i9-9900K & 3080. You can't go wrong with the 7800X3D, I was always Intel and I would have never thought that I would have made the switch. I don't need 100FPS in MSFS either but 60FPS is PERFECT and a big difference for me.

I also have a 7800X3D and a 4070 TI Super and it's amazing.  Specially coming from an I7 4790K with a 2060 Super, lol. I have no CTD's with DX12 though.

Yup, I got the same processor and a similar card.  Its a night/day difference.

No you weren't my friend--no way you could set RS at 160% and that is the best improvement out of 4090 for me, that and the massive VRAM needed to accommodate high RS levels.  Moreover, you mentioned in your demanding test scenario your system got you an FPS around 45, not 60.  I won't use Frame Generation as its artifacts here are substantial for me:  flickering/strobing tarmacs under dawn/dusk conditions especially, modest glass cockpit artifacts when panning, and screen judder when moving between my two screens.  Those issues combined are showstoppers for FG here.  And quite frankly the real difference between 45 and 60 is paltry at best.  We all have different priorities.

And...no need to try to keep selling 7800X3D I already said I'm going there.

What I meant is that with good enough settings for me I was able to achieve 40-45fps 🙂

My upgrade to 7800X3D since I already use 4090 will be a dawn/day difference:  a bit more TLOD which TBH is really not that impressive now that I'm running Render Scale at 160%, a little more traffic, and a base locked rate of 35 to around 45 in the most demanding settings.  And it goes up from there in lesser demanding settings.  And it's possible FG won't be the issue it is now w/ my current CPU.

Sad that MSFS still using DX11 graphics API that came out in 2009 (15 years ago) ... so much for "new engine" ... hopefully they can figure out how to utilize DX12.2 (2021) better for MSFS 2024.  DX13 rumors are end of 2024 but I wouldn't rely on that as there are no "development" builds for DX13 API yet in MSDN.

Agree on the AMD 7800X3D and the nVidia 4070Ti Super ... the best performance to $$ ratio currently.

I appreciate that DX11 may not be the latest technology, but it is worth remembering that those of us with less than top end PCs can enjoy running MSFS at impressive detail levels in DX11 mode without worrying too much about VRAM. I agree that MSFS 2024 should be able to harness the full potential of DX12, but I hope that MS/Asobo continue to recognise the "little guys" at the same time

The 7800X3d is a fantastic chip. My mobo died, so I upgraded from an almost-new 5800X3d to that because as long as I was spending the money I figured I'd jump to the new architecture. I noticed an immediate performance improvement.

The biggest problem with it, which is the same problem as the 5800X3d had, is that it's quite electrically noisy. My bluetooth headphones were getting tons of pops and dropouts until I finally got a long USB extension cord for them and ran the receiver to the other side of the room from the computer. They'd started doing that when I upgraded to the 5800 from the old 2700 I'd had in before, so it's definitely the chip causing the noise.

Especially if that's not a concern for someone deciding on a chip, the X3d line is absolutely the way to go for flight sims (and gaming in general).

Is this a common finding with these CPUs?

I have both a 5800X3D and a 7800X3D and have never experienced that, so I would submit that it is not a common problem.

A quick Google search indicates otherwise.

No problem here with that either so far.

I don't know, but I have irritating recurring sound pops when I listen through headphones, not bluetooth, they are connected to an external usb-c amp.
