Dear All,

I'm mystified - MSFS has been very stable for a long time and then all of a sudden I get CTD's whenever I start up - usually after the ASOBO splash screen.  I had the same thing happen last year and I traced the that problem with help from this forum to that using a USB3 hub caused the issue.

I've removed everything from my community folder, checked that if any of my inputs from my equipment (rudder pedals, joystick, etc.) has an effect and no joy - I've tried over 20 times.

May I ask if anybody has had a similar experience and what did you do to fix it?

Update - I managed to get it running again after multiple restarts of Windows (at least 5 times).

However, after I shut my PC down, I go back to the same problem.

Windows 10 or 11?

Windows 10.

I'm hesitating about re-installing it as there may be another issue.

Any windows updates on hold?  Check under Update & Security...

MSFS is a very temperamental piece of software. Last year, there was a period where it crashed on final approach every single time. I just left it alone as none of the usual troubleshooting steps was working. After a few weeks, without no change in the sim it started working without any issue.

Sometimes, when I do get CTDs, I delete the scenery index folder, and restart. Then choose a different aircraft and airport while loading into the sim.

Dont reinstall. It's just a huge waste of time. 99% of all issues stem from addons/mods. I would use verify/repair from either steam or xbox store first. Check windows updates too.

Any app/addon that wasn't updated. AV is off. Could be that MSFS selected a setting for you that's causing an issue. That happened to me before.

If you select the Steam option to verify files, as far as I know, it'll automatically re-install the sim.

I think there’s some truth in this. My sim is a lot more stable after I stopped loading fifteen thousand flightsim.to addons. Now I use only a few selected ones. Having a lot means keeping them up to date can become a nightmare.

YAS! I used to have a ton of stuff. I would only install very few at a time. However, I had a bug with the addon linker (or it was my fault) and it would load a bunch of stuff into the sim. As it turns out, a lot of other addons are not compatible with other addons. I know I know...someone will chime in and say, "I don't use any addons etc and dont have these problems etc etc" but these comments are not helpful. Even if true. Haha.

I would load only airports/scenery that I was flying to-from but I would forget. Anywho.....I only have a small amount of freeware. Only from a few devs and nobody who says you have to download 9 freaking libraries to get their scenery to work. Yeah, no thanks.

Except Vincent. Best freeware airports ever.

That I have no idea. I do have a ton of steam games it doesnt reinstall the entire game but only verifies/installs which files are missing. Usually.

It happened to me 3 months after the MSFS release almost 4 years ago. I did verify files on Steam, and bum!, the whole sim was re-installed from ground zero. Caution.

Oh that's terrible! I guess the MS Store version treats it differently then.

So true. Troubleshooting which two (or more) addons are conflicting with each other becomes harder the more addons are loaded. I have folders in addons linker for regions - EU, NA, SA, Asia, AU/NZ. Sorry Africa!

I load my favorite airplanes every time (only about 5-6) as the sim is quite slow to load. Amazingly, AIG TC with all flight plans installed will not finish loading before I’m ready for pushback haha.
