New Nvidia Driver 552.44

Featured Replies

No discernible performance / quality difference for me, as expected, but I am installing it to try to try to get rid of a 5 second black screen I get at random once per windows session (a known issue, but nobody seems to know how to solve it).

It looks like a driver reset to me when it happens.  Audio continues in the background and then everything comes back alright, but I have had it happen once in MSFS - luckily not on approach!

No random black screen yet with the new driver, but too early to say if it is cured yet.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Done a couple of flights with this driver. Smooth as silk on my end.

Tried 3.5.1, 3.6 and 3.7 but the one that still seems to work best for me is 3.5.

Not sure why msfs still uses 2.4 by default - Maybe they found that to be more stable - from nemory it provided slightly better visuals at the expense of a little performance.

To me it’s baffling that MSFS uses such an outdated version. I think it dates back to autumn ‘22. I don’t have many other games, but my daughter plays a fair bit of Fortnite. And that seems to stay current with DLSS versions (checked with GPU-Z).

After installing version 552.44, I see the lights much dimmer and everything a bit darker.

Sorry!..

I haven't had it today (yet), but I have left my PC downloading unattended for most of the day, so it may have happened while I wasn't watching it.

It is fairly harmless, but there are more than a few experiencing it.   It happened on my old PC before Christmas as well (with an Nvidia card), so it has been happening for some time.
Drivers out of whack or resetting when trying to do something in the background possibly.  I can't waste time chasing it any more, so I will ignore it - a minor annoyance.

Yeah blame it on your poor daughter. I saw that Fortnite icon pride of place on your monitor (YouTube). 😁
