Surely, always keeping your seat belt fastened prevents you, in extreme cases of this type, from flying towards the ceiling of the plane with all the consequences of the case but from my experience which has happened to me twice, wearing a seat belt cannot save you from all the objects and passengers that can fall on your head, not to mention the accidental opening of the overhead compartments with luggage spilling onto the passengers below. Reiterating what I said in a previous post, I believe that in the event of extreme events of this type, in addition to always wearing seat belts, a system of inflatable protections should be studied which come into operation automatically, for example on the upper parts of the corridors, from under the hat racks or armchair headrests. In this specific case, both from the statements of the passengers and from the published data, it seems that it was a case of a double turbulence event with very strong lateral winds which suddenly caused the plane to first take a very steep angle of climb with very strong shaking to then suffered a very strong downward wind which caused the impact on the upper parts of the passengers and A/Vs who were not wearing their seat belts, with objects and panels falling onto the seated passengers.
