People have got so used to their data being strewn all over the place which together with the naive belief that the parts they want to keep private are private can lead to danger

None of this matters much to us little fish until we do or say something out of line and thats when you discover you have no secrets and one night they come for you.

Freedoms of speech and peaceful protest are currently being eroded by right wing governments all over the west and this includes what you say or type or watch on that little screen

This Recall feature is of such little use to an ordinary user and of such huge potential for anyone who can hack it (and it will be hacked) that one has to wonder why it really is being put out there

No argument there, and even though the files are bitlocker encrypted, they should be encrypted in a way that makes them completely unreadable if transferred to a different device.

MS is also throwing a bucket of paint at something that should be handled with a pen. I'm not sure what use a bunch of pictures will be when the whole point of this is (supposedly) to go back and see/work on the same things you were working on a day or week or month ago. And MS tried this already with the Win10 Timeline, and they scrapped that because the timeline was (presumably) never used by anyone.

Something that would be 1000% more useful is the ability to save states in order to recall them at a later date... So I could open a bunch of programs, arrange windows how I like, and then recall that in the future. But given some of MS's own programs can't even remember their window position, I guess it's just easier for them to screenshot your entire desktop and call it AI.

 

 

In other news (not directed at your Burt), MS has no intentions of buying Valve, but I'm sure the "news" sites and "content creators" are happy to get the additional ad revenue that results from everyone sharing these "doomsday" predictions across all social media platforms. I should really change careers 😂

Yes, I know that's what Microsoft says, and it might even be what they intend to do right now. But remember, part of Google's core values used to say "don't be evil" and that's been erased because evil makes them billions. Funny how looking at piles of money they're missing out on makes corporations change their minds about their stances.

I've read it and I've read some studies on its compliance, Here is one.. https://gdprwise.eu/news/survey-by-eu-finds-millions-of-small-businesses-non-compliant/

No body is capable of comprehensively policing the Internet, it becomes a matter of going for the low hanging fruit.

Anything approaching full compliance even for companies and businesses in full sight is a pipe dream and of course Governments (many of which are now heavily lobbied and partnered by big business) have complete ability to obviate the very laws they hand down and experience shows they often take advantage of this power for less than sincere and morally defensible reasons.

All this is something out of the normal persons control of course and probably isnt worth getting ate up, but lets not pretend any  state provided protection is water tight
