What's up with FlyJSim?

I just hope the next 727 iteration will keep the model variety, but at leat add opening doors to each. That's something I've been really missing in v4.

Why do the opening doors matter so much? It's something I can't understand. Kinda like the cabin being modeled.... At the end of the day, all I care about is the flight. I know everyone's preferences are different, but it seems like a waste of resources.

Well lets say combination of my ignorance of the way XP is built and has developed. Having come from a long background of MS based flight sims - FSX to P3D particularly backward compatability was overall good. I worked with developing and upgrading a lot of older stuff to P3DV5 that went as far back as MS2004. As for XPlane, while the overall model; size dimensions, textures etc and underlying coding worked XP12 was basically a new sim by comparison so critical stuff like manipulators, datarefs etc etc were no longer functional in XP12. There was no product disclaimer at the point of purchase - that is this is an XP11 model and will not work in XP12.

This ignorance was also compounded by the state of play for the sim - namely there was a lot of opportunism from the Covid era where a variety of enterprises put out sim stuff (at the time XP11) but stopped upgrading or developing those models for XP12. I assumed incorrectly that those enterprises would in due course upgrade and get their stuff into XP12 -Wrong! There are a whole bunch of great models (XP11) that were not abandoned but which the enterprises for their own reasons I guess decided, by default or design to move to another platform (MSFS). That I understand. as it was a constant problem in the way developers abandoned P3D as well for MSFS.

No I am not mad at them that is not the point - the point is an upgrade was suggested, hinted at or said it was being done and a year plus later - nothing. Then again will they? after all how much real demand or interest is there for a steam guage era early Jet Transport in 2024 when the real aeroplanes are long gone and in museums or scrapped! Real world manufacturers do not upgrade legacy stuff either - that task passes to the enthusiasts and restorers. In the world of software intellectual property rights so jealously guarded and fostered by those who want to own the rights to every bit of code just makes the work of enthusiasts and restorers an under the counter process! The model only cost fifty bucks so no great loss in the scheme of things - as for customer service well half the developers about have absolutely no idea of what that means or how to go about it! So if a customer tells you they made a mistake but ok I can wait if there is something to be done or come - just do it! IF they are not then thats fine I can live with that too! Customers are your lifeblood lose that trust you lose your business!

The Q400 may be the best thing since sliced bread - but it does not float my boat! Besides to emphasise my point there are enthusiasts rebuilding a lot of legacy stuff and if I wanted a Dash 8 then the Manky1 Dash is my go to - gets better and better as time goes on.

I see your points and agree with some of them.

Forwards and backwards compatibility on Prepar3D is hit or miss, at best. E.g., there are plenty of addons that work great on P3D v4/4.5 that simply won't run on later versions, or, as you say, not without extensive work under the hood that is beyond the ability or tolerance of many people.

E.g., there are PLENTY of ESP/FSX/P3D devs who have historically said, "caveat emptor" in similar situations to XP11 -> XP12.

And there are PLENTY that charged nothing, or next to nothing for upgrading their addons to the next major sim version on either platform.

I haven't seen many XP devs simply stop development for XP 12. Some are taking an extended amount of time to do it, some had it ready on literally Day 1 of the XP12 Beta.

There are at most a small handful of devs who have migrated from X-Plane to MSFS, especially if we're counting those 1 or 2 who have abandoned XP for MSFS. iniBuilds is the major offender here, but there are others who are spending the vast majority of their time in MSFS now (e.g. CowanSim).

There are indeed a few devs, like FJS, who haven't yet updated their addons. But in FJS' defense, their Q400 made the transition from v11 to v12 more or less immediately, and at no cost.

HotStart's Challenger is another example, yet we still wait for their TBM to be updated for v12 (Goran hints that, like FJS, we're looking at a major rebuild).

IMHO, I wouldn't lash out at FJS too hard. Yeah, we want their new stuff, but they are giving us essentially new addons for the new sim. And like other devs, it's taking awhile, and like other devs, will likely require a re-purchase or significant upgrade fee.

Only you can decide which addons are worth additional money. I know I've left some behind due to fees, but there are others where a full-price repurchase was entirely worth it (to me). 🙂

Cabins and doors aren't a Must-Have for me, but I appreciate them as they are part of the aircraft. Pax cabin? Eh...I've seen enough of the cattle cars IRL over a lifetime of business travel.

But I do genuinely enjoy biz jet interiors as I haven't seen nearly as many of those 🙂 .

If anything, i'm more partial to external detail like doors, cargo holds, gear bays, fueling ports, etc. All the stuff I rarely, if ever, get to see IRL.

Or maybe it's just all those plastic scale models i built back in the day 😉

Hey UrgentSiesta - understood. I have done 4 rebuilds and upgrades of old FS stuff for P3D to V5 standard. When I gave away P3D for XP I discovered how different a program XP was and how basically the models could not be ported and if I wanted them and had to do it for XP it would be starting with a clean sheet of paper. The only developer I know that managed it was AWX with the DC-3 and Tiger Moth who took the Jahn C-47 into XP . At this point for myself , too hard or shall we say troublesome, as simply I no longer was that keen to do years of work all over again using a whole bunch of new skills (GIMP, Blender etc etc) so yeah I get why developers would just say too hard and park them!. Then again others are quite perverse in their decisions, ala PMDG - they do the magnificent DC-6 for XP11, then stopped XP altogether and pulled the software completely.

Can only add planes made for 10 and updated to 11 mostly need a full rebuild. I also suspect many are waiting on 12.1 b run to finish other wise they will be chasing there tails.

I really don't understand this...?

YOU bought an addon that isn't compatible with the sim you're running and you're mad at THEM...?

And IIRC, current owners or new purchasers will get some kind of discount.

There's an argument to be made that announcing that it would be paid update rather than free just after you've had a 50% off planes on sale and said the free update will be out shortly wasn't the best move in the world.

It was necessary, but the timing was awful.

But in there defense, a lot of developers at the beginning where not aware of how big a job it is. But we love blaming them for all our problems. IXEG 737 was almost not upgraded they did a whole video on how the choose to go on,even thoough some involved left. its still WIP because they are upgrading sounds to FMOD and the FMS to use the default XP12 NAV data, and that will take some time.

Each and every aircraft has opening doors and a cabin modeled nowadays, so consider it a standard (especially for payware aircraft!) and a compliment to FJS that this is the only major item on my "suggestion for improvement" list.

Not a good developer imo.

The was 732 was quite expensive almost nothing works in X-Plane 12 and after 2 years still no update. If you mention that you paid money you get lectured and they may even kick you from their discord so thanks and goodbye.

I bought the Rotate MD-80 instead which was updated shortly after X-Plane and am very happy with that.

Did they promise it would work in 12???

From what I understand the main programmer took some time away from the program due to' Real World Personal and Family Issues'.

So... bought the Dash 8 400 today and did a flight from Chicago to Pidgeon Forge, TN... It's pretty good, though I couldn't reach or maintain FL270 as proposed by SimBrief on CL power setting and definitely couldn't maintain on CR. Had to periodically kick the power to MAX to gain airspeed. That was weird  I also don't quite understand the throttle operation with my Thrustmaster Airbus stick. With the guard off, the throttle won't advance until I utilize the mouse to raise it, then it works fine... Also clicked on the EFB to make it go away, but couldn't find a way to mount it back - gotta check the manual. Disappointed in no Charts being offered on the EFB - had to resort to AviTab. I'd say it's pretty good. It's not Majestic, but I am not gonna keep P3D just for that one bird. The sounds on Majestic are better. It's a little overpriced at $70... I'd say it's worth $50 to me. Don't know how often I will fly it cause it's kind of a pain to operate (not a propliner fan, though this one makes more sense than ATR - I can't stand the ATR. 🙂
