If I keep my files in reinstall, will that retain the wmr problem???

Unfortunately, In researching your issue, the most common "solution" to the problem seems to be a clean install. I was hoping to avoid anything so drastic.

Quest 2 definitely works with amd gpus, Meta would be crazy to ignore 25% of the market...and they're not. Also you don't need any mixed reality for quest, just the oculus app. Microsoft is disco

Strider,

Sorry for delay in response mate.

when resetting Windows there is an option for clean install and an install where you keep your files.

Anyway, it is irrelevant as I have just spent the last six hours doing a reset keeping files, and restoring things like driver updates, reloading and installing antivirus, google etc.

Having done all of that I got into MSFS and I still have the same problem when connected by cable to my Quest2 headset.

I do not understand this as WMR surely is a windows app and nothing to do with my files.

How in the world do I turn this "£*(&(*£E%" WMR off?

Tony

You should have done a clean install. You probably just restored the previous problem files/settings. If you have important files then you back them up to an eternal hard drive.

Are you booting MSFS through the Meta App?

Hello all

OK I am about to reinstall a clean windows.I will advise.

I would really like to express my profound gratitude for all the help you guys have given me. It is not a great feeling to depend on other people on such a regular basis, despite the fact that it happens to most elderly people, but your support constantly rekindles my belief in the innate goodness in people throughout the world.

Again thank you so very much

Tony

strider,

I sure have mate and have been somewhat of a glutton about flying as I have clocked just over 20 hours of flight since restoration yesterday afternoon. (got about three hours sleep last night LOL)

I have to admit that the performance of the new system is really good but, as I said before, whilst I have no idea what the frame rate is, performance on ultra settings is really really smooth with no pauses, stuttering  or tweaking as yet.

I have just returned to my post at the flight desk (lol) and am about to try DX12 and maybe try some tweeking. I am just so happy and all of this was unattainable without you guys.

Awesome, I am happy for you! Sounds like me when I first got my Pimax up and running. My face was getting pretty sensitive from wearing the headset for so many hours. The nostalgia kind worn off on my end, so I am back to a few healthy hours a week now.

Cheers...

Since last update (City update) when I start a flight fps is really low, 15 fps. Just restarting results in about 30 fps....  Happens all over the place, Germany, UK, US.

Really annoying. (I have a Varjo Aero, since end of 2023)

Frame rate can be read with openXR toolkit in a Meta Quest 2. But I only used this toolkit with a HP Reverb G2 and Crystal Light. But it can be done with a Quest 2 (according to this link below).

There is a simple setting called display framerates or something like that.

Also, the big news, you can increase fps by over 50%. By using the particular type of upscaling called CAS in OpenXR toolkit.

In my Crystal light in one test on one flight I went from 28 to 42 instantly when I turned on CAS. I could read the fps because I told the toolkit to show it. The fps readout is just one number like 38 or 17 or 51.

You can see the "Overlay" FPS above which displays fps only. Advanced shows all kinds of other stuff too.

Ok, I completely reinstalled my sim pc. Windows reinstall, sim reinstall, all addons reinstalled. Now I have supersmooth fps, even Manhatting flying between buildings no stutters and fps around 25-30. In the backcountry now sometimes 50 or 60 fps. Have turned Varjo Base software vertical synchronization off (always had it on, whether or not motion smoothing was on).  Finally how it is meant to be (after 4000 hours in VR).

Fielder,

After all the work involved in sorting out the last debacle, I am somewhat (read extremely) daunted in trying the OpenXR tool kit again.

I have no idea what my frame rates are but with my new system it is incredibly smooth which I think is probably more important than  FPS. It is something I could consider in the future.

I am currently redownloading/reinstalling my MSFS due to a problem that arose when I formatted the wrong drive in disk management. The problem there is that there is no correlation between that and MY PC information ie System C is ok but Drives D, E, F, G, H and I all have a brackets item after it in MY PC which copfuses the bejes.s out of me. For instance Drive D in My PC is Drive D  with (H) after it. I was looking to format Drive H and guess what .... Yep that was my MSFS drive.

So I am currently trying to find out how to rename my drives so that Disk Management, MY PC and my desktop icons all agree.

Back to the reinstall though, I have no been downloading for 26 hours with a 100mb download internet and have progressed rapidly to 50% of 134.25GB  I can walk faster than that download speed from Microsoft or Xbox or whoever is controlling that system.

Never mind it all comes good in the end

Thanks for that info mate.

The 2024 fairy will dust away all of these issues with sprinkles !

I think it is going to involve a little more than sprinkles mate. A lot of thought and research has gone into my efforts thus far. It has also involved a couple (or more) bad decisions on my part.

However, overall I am reasonably pleased with what I have achieved and I have certainly learnt a lot in doing so.  A little more learning, a little more patience with MSFS and all will be well

I hope.

Of course you could be referring to MSFS2024 and my response to that is "here we go again LOL" A huge amount of potential though and I am really looking forward to it.

Cheers mate
