Hello all again, Well, at long last I can report total success. I have just completed my first post upgrade flight and I am thrilled to say the least. I have no idea what the frame rates are

Quest 2 definitely works with amd gpus, Meta would be crazy to ignore 25% of the market...and they're not. Also you don't need any mixed reality for quest, just the oculus app. Microsoft is disco

I use a 5800x3d, Pico 4 and 7900XTX, all running great.

Get Virtual Desktop, select VDXR, Godlike mode, 72Hz, SSW Always active, enjoy

I can also confirm firsthand the 7900XTX/drivers also work fine with the Pimax Crystal, the Valve Index, and the Bigscreen Beyond.

Speaking of drivers, it's better to use version 23.12.1 with the 7900XTX.

Do you own all of those VR headsets?

I used the Crystal for a few months but got rid of it due to the size and issues with their software. I have shelved the BSB because the FOV is awful; and am back to using the Index for now. Definitely looking to get something better than the Index again though; after using the Crystal I definitely want something similar and the BSB turned out to be a dud.

I have the crystal light and I like it, but it's not very comfortable. I could not imagine it any heavier, it would be pretty horrendous. Pimax has been at for a long time now, I am surprised they have not improved the HMD in the comfort department. It's looks and feel cheaply made.

I would love a BSB form factor with Pimax visuals and a OLED display. Maybe their next headset.

What part are y'all missing here that the OP is using a Quest 2 and that's what he's having issues with..? (mentioning additionally that is seem to be specific to this headset, and he probably couldn't care less about others I'm sure he cannot/does not want to look into buying...)

After getting numerous, consistent messages telling me that PC was disconnected (eventually fixed) the message chat moved to "please verify PC is set up for mixed reality" and downloading everything Microsoft mixed reality related to no avail,

The Quest has nothing to do with mixed reality. I would make sure any mixed reality software was removed. You just need the Oculus software, and possibly Virtual desktop if you elect to go the wireless route.

As was already mentioned, SteamVR Link is also a viable, if less performant route.

Keith,

Cable link is far and away my preferred option for using Quest. The quote above is my biggest problem in that I cannot turn off mixed reality. How can I do this.

I have looked at uninstalling through Control Panel, I have looked through Program Files, Program Files (x86) and Program Data and I cannot find a hint even of what I should be uninstalling or deleting, in order to rid myself of mixed reality.

Are you able to help me there?

For Fielder, jkeye and Donka,

Thank you so very much for your input which, in fact, may prove invaluable. My preferred option, as previously stated, is using the cable link. I am the proud owner of a very consistent internet system in that it is consistently and constantly erratic. The speed (I am paying for 50mb unlimited) and I get anywhere from 10 to 40mbs and it is up and down like a (apologies) hoes drawers on payday. This is to the extent that I am seriously looking at Starlink at nearly 3 times the rate I am currently paying and that is without the set up fees. I hope you can see my problem and why I want to attack the cable solution if that is feasible.

I do have an ether connection from modem to computer. I will look at the wireless aspect if I have to go down the desktop path.

Finally, the destress activities (with my very good mate Al Cohol and loud, very loud, music) worked a treat and I woke up this morning with a smile, despite feeling somewhat under the weather. LOL

Thanks again for all your responses.

HiFlyer,

You have helped me so many times now that I am starting to feel a burden, but, you do have my very sincere gratitude.

Looking at my response to keithb77, can you point the way to deleting/removing/uninstalling this software forever from my computer?

I have no idea what the name of the software I need to delete is and a search on C Drive for Mixed Reality, Windows Mixed Reality produces no results.  Microsoft appear to be determined to keep the software hidden LOL

Regards

Tony

For all the respondents who are telling me that 7900xtx works fine with other headsets, I would like to state that I am aware that none, of the sets you mention have a problem with AMD software.

It is ONLY the Quest headset that has the problem and that is the problem I have .... I have the Quest 2.

IF, I had known about the hardware/software incompatibility between the Quest and AMD I would have opted for an inferior, but nonetheless excellent GPU ie a second hand RTX3090ti in lieu.

I stress that I have absolutely no regrets about buying the AMD product but I have to admit when researching the purchase, I found nothing about its incompatibility with Quest drivers. My bad I guess.

I do appreciate your inputs though and I have no wish to discourage any response whatsoever.

Thanks guys

Update

I have found and uninstalled windows mixed reality portal

I have found and uninstalled openxrtool mixed reality x 2

I have rebooted the computer after the uninstall

I checked that all of the above no longer appeared in settings or installed apps

Reloaded msfs and as soon as I hit my VR activation key I still have the "verify setup for mixed reality"

I have located a windows mixed reality check for pc in default apps but I cannot delete or uninstall that. I am hoping this has nothing to do with the problem.

Is there a setting in MSFS itself that is causing this.

Is there an uninstall that I have missed.

I gotta say that this is testing my sanity (if I have any left LOL)

Cheers guys

Check your windows store to see if wmr is still installed there. Make sure when uninstalling wmr software that was not installed from the windows store to do it via add/remove programs menu.

Search your computer for any references to Analog.Holographic.Desktop

Possibly find and manually delete any left-behind folders, if you can locate any.
