Populating airports with static planes via PSXT (free)

Featured Replies

There's a thread on the P3D forum about this, but it's worth mentioning here as it works quite well in MSFS as well:  Nico, the PSXT developer, has released a new version of PSXT that will populate airfields around the world with static aircraft from your existing AI model library (e.g. AIG, FSLTL, and/or FS-Traffic).  It's based off a real-world traffic snapshot taken the first week of 2024, and using the static acft only functionality does not require a payware RealTraffic license.

I just tried it, and I'm quite happy to finally see empty expanses of concrete replaced by ramps inhabited with carrier-appropriate traffic, especially at the FedEx and UPS cargo hubs like KMEM, KSDF, KIND, etc.  The program places the static planes as simobjects rather than animated AI aircraft, so there's very little performance impact.

PSXT also allows you to reserve parking at your destination to prevent conflicts with a static model on arrival, and a lot of other interesting flexibiity.

That sounds interesting, Bob. Since lots of AI planes hit performance quite significantly on my mediocre PC, realistic static aircraft would be the next best option. Where do I check out this PSXT?

Will there be any updates that use (for example) Week 30 as the specified date? The reason for this is that there is a lot more UK charter traffic in the summer.

I keep meaning to test this and keep forgetting

No, it will always be about half a year behind. Four updates a year. Actual traffic data comes at a cost you know.

You can of course buy a license, then you will always have the data of last week. 😉

Not a problem. I will just wait for the mid year data release, and then stick with it

Double clicking on the PSXT icon does not do anything. Am I supposed to run MSFS first before launching PSXT?

Yes, without MSFS running PSXT doesn't know where it is supposed to inject traffic.

No, then it will wait for MSFS. You probably have to do tis first (from the PSXT Quick Start guide):

Make sure you have the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2022, version 17, architecture x64. The standalone installer for (VC_redist.x64.exe) can be downloaded here at Microsoft.

Btw, there is a special PSXT forum at AVSIM. Post your questions there.

The point was more that MSFS does need to be running for PSXT to work. It doesn't matter what order you start it in.

What settings do we need to use in PSXT if we only want to use it as Static generator? I mean if we have a RT licence. I would very much be interested in using it only for static on big airports and save some fps.

Set Lateral Range=2 nm and  MaxLive = 0.

Or even more drastic, delete your RT license.
