You don't happen to know the UK launch time on Friday by any chance?

Launch window opens at 0733 GMT.  Lunch window opens at noon!  Place your order!

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱

Wow... an astronaut in a SpaceX suit now doing a spacewalk? Never seen before. I thought these suits weren't as airtight as the old, bulky NASA Apollo/Shuttle suits.

  • Actually..... The US suits have a SAFER system that uses nitrogen gas. If the tether breaks that can fart their way back to safety.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simplified_Aid_For_EVA_R

  • Inside the ISS I would imagine. So the atmosphere inside the space station while they were in space. Or inside a stinky spacesuit, perhaps.

Ok, waiting till Monday. Luckily there's still the Starliner undocking and reentry planed for today, for completing my space fun dose 😄

Apparently Tuesday, now.

Be about 4:30 in the morning for me. So I'll still be in bed allowing my body to hypertrophy my gorgeous pecs, biceps, triceps, lats and delts. Then I'll oil them up in the morning and pose on the beach for the seagulls.

36 mins to go. Fingers crossed.

Propellant is loading. Weather seems clear.

Perfect launch. Perfect landing on the drone ship. Dragon is really moving to reach that extreme orbit, 27891 km/h.

Awesome view of Earth.

Avsim Space Cadets don't seem interested in this historic event. But, just in case, space walk about to start. First private space walk, testing new suits.

I was waiting for him to poke a hole in his glove and fly around like Iron Man.

You might be getting mixed up with the suits. The suits they usually use in Dragon are just for emergency scenarios, for pressure leaks, they are pretty flexible. The suit being tested today is a proper space suit designed for EVA's. More flexible than the NASA suits, as you saw, they were running through various arm movements to test the suits flexibility. The helmet is also equipped with a heads up display.

Simplified Aid For EVA Rescue (SAFER) is a small, self-contained, propulsive backpack system (jet pack) worn during spacewalks, to be used in case of emergency only. If an untethered astronaut were to lose physical contact with the vessel, it would provide free-flying mobility to return to it. It is worn on spacewalks outside the International Space Station (ISS), and was worn on spacewalks outside the Space Shuttle. So far, there has not been an emergency in which it was needed.[1][2] SAFER is a small, simplified version of the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU), which was used for regular maneuvering.[3]

Rule #1  There is no farting in space!

Space really does stink!

Technically, space is an airless vacuum, so you can't smell anything in it. However, astronauts have described a range of smells in space, including:

Gunpowder: Some Apollo moon landing astronauts described the smell of space as gunpowder-like.

Burnt meat: Some International Space Station astronauts described the smell as burnt steak.

Ozone: Some astronauts have described a distinct odor of ozone.

Metallic: Some astronauts have described a sour, metallic smell.

Alcohol: Some astronauts have reported that space smells like alcohol.

Static electricity: UK astronaut Tim Peake described the smell of space as "like static electricity".

Nobody has "smelled" space. To do that, your nostrils would have to be in direct contact with it.....and you really don't want that.
