Another one here who just got a Primax Crystal Light

I said I'll report back when I received my headset. Here are some key points from my experience so far:

1.  I ordered the headset back on 6/13 and just got it yesterday 8/31.  I'll give the company a little stretch here as they are a new company and the demand was higher than expected

2.  Setup was easy enough and didn't conflict with Windows Mixed Reality (can still use the Reverb G2 if I want to before MS pulls the plug).  'VR Flight Sim Guy's settings worked perfect for me outside of a slight adjustment on one setting that worked better on my system:

MSFS Pimax Crystal LIGHT VR SETTINGS GUIDE 3070ti - 4070- 4090 | ALL You NEED to KNOW! (youtube.com)

3.  Having the headset running smooth and looking good the first thing that stuck out is how it fits on my face.  This thing will kill your nose. Primax needs better padding around the nose area as the sharp lenses just sit on your nose and can leave an indentation after use.  I'm still trying to figure out a work around for this.  Very bad design

4. The most problematic is head tracking.  I never thought newer headsets would suffer from something the Reverb G2 overcame years ago.  As you fly along and add-on scenery needs to load up the headset loses it's tracking.  You could be on short final or in the pattern and the headset view will jump out of the plane or down in the seat.  You have to exit out of VR and back into it and even then sometimes that doesn't work.  I tried turning off the in sim 'Camera Shake' which seems to have helped somewhat with my last flight but it takes from the feel of flight.  A second flight reveled this wasn't much help😣

Everything else has already been said.  Head Tracking is a huge problem with this headset and I hope it's just I haven't found the right setting yet.  Outside of that the display looks good (a nice upgrade to the Reverb G2) and using the tips above performance should be great for anyone who decides to get this (it can only get better from here)...🍺

EDIT: If I can't get this head tracking issue figured out in the next few days I'm sending this back (it's a great upgrade if it didn't have this issue).😑😌

Dillon, can you comment on clarity compared to G2? Is it better, negligable etc?

Much better.  The grainy look in the distance is gone with the Pimax and it's even better depending on the video card you have. It's a nice improvement making the display look more like your monitor and the field of view isn't limited.  The whole view is an adjustable sweet spot.  I just can't get head tracking to work correctly.

Hi Dillon, Another Crystal light user here. My understanding is that eye tracking is not available on the Pimax Crystal Light.

is it something other than eye tracking you’re referring too?

I’m not trying to be smart but just want to help out if I can.

Let's try 'Head' tracking.  I'll correct above.  Here's someone with a similar problem:

That’ll be it. How’s the ambient light in your room. I know I’ve yet to make this suggested change but I saw a comment on the Pimax discord where someone said you need to allow the tracking cameras be visible by turning them on in Window?

it’s not something I’ve even thought about but I’ll check tomorrow (I’m in the UK).

I don't have the Pimax tracking camera additions.  Just the same the Reverb G2 functioned perfectly fine with the lighting in my office.😕

1. One size fits all. You can adjust the top strap so the weight sits on that. I leave the straps loose, otherwise it hurts my check bones after a while.

2. I had that problem initially, it seems to have gone away for the most part. I just recalibrate the room settings every time I start a new session in the sim. I don't use add-on scenery, do they need to load up?

Are you using OpenXR toolkit?

1. I'm finding that out as I go along but still haven't found a happy medium

2. As you fly along scenery loads up in general it's just that add-on scenery has a slightly longer load time depending how optimized the third-party scenery is.  Normally it's barely noticeable.  Yes I'm using OpenXR (also PimaxXR and QuadViews Companion).

What I'm finding now in testing is the Cystal's lighting needs is in reverse to the Reverb G2.😶  The more light I let into my room the more the Crystal malfunctions.🤔 Tonight I had a hunch and went in the opposite direction.  I adjusted my lighting in my room to where the monitor right in front me is the most luminated (the Crystal directly faces that) and the rest of the room is darkened.  The problems with the Crystal loosing it's head tracking are all but gone.😶 I may have had an issue one time in my last flight.  So I think I'm on to something here with this headset.🤔🍺 The jury is still out but I'm feeling good about keeping this thing now.  I love the visual improvement...

My apologies Dillon. The discord post made reference to “inside out” cameras which I thought meant the external cameras on the headset. Not the Lighthouse fitted headset.

I ‘m sorry if I mislead you because of my incorrect interpretation.

No problem.  The darkened room theory I mentioned in my post above yours is looking promising (still testing).🍺

EDIT: THIS HEADSET IS A KEEPER!👍😊

This headset runs best in a dark room with only the monitor running. This is something impossible with the HP Reverb G2.  I just did a night flight in a dark room with only the monitor luminating the room (FS running a night flight so the monitor was all but black, outside of the cockpit night lighting) and the Cystal didn't loose it's head tracking once.  Actually it performed better in this regard than doing the same flight in the daytime in the dark room.  So it's a totally different type of tracking than the Reverb which would be obvious but this is upside down in what you would think.  I wish Pimax would have told us as such in tech documents somewhere (or maybe I didn't scan the official forms enough).

It's the opposite with my CL. If the room is too dark, then I loose tracking, even with my monitor on.
