One thing it did do was to update the headset firmware..so that was something... Ill wait for the official release... This update screwed the headset up on my end. IPD settings don't work and Pimax Play settings don't seem to affect anything anymore. That firmware update I believe is behind allot of the problems. Now the only thing to do is wait for an update. The headset is still usable but my cloud problem is back where heaving clouds cause the headset to loose it's tracking. Word to the wise, Don't update to the latest version (v1.33).🫣 FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

September 30, 20241 yr Interesting discussion on the beta update.. https://www.reddit.com/r/Pimax/comments/1fqmb26/pimax_play_v13201/ Looks like a bug for sure with the IPD not showing..although physically working... plus realized that Opencomposite is still needed for non native OpenXR games... so it suggests to uninstall OpenXR and leave Opencomposite installed and OpenXRToolkit as well if you use that... At any rate, looks like Pimax are onto a fix shortly i9 13900KF @ 5.5Ghz | MoBo MSI PRO Z690-A WiFi | Corsair Vengeance Black RGB RS 64gb DDR4 3200MHz | MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Vanguard SOC 32GB | MP33 Pro 1TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD for OS | Samsung 870 QVO 2.5" 4TB SSD SATA2 | Samsung 990 PRO 2TB | Corsair RM1000X 2021 1300W 80 Plus Gold PSU | Antec Dark Fleet DF700 Flux Gaming Case | Win 11 home | Samsung 65" 4K TV | G512 Keyboard | Razer Basilisk V2 Mouse | WinCtrl URSA MINOR 32 Throttle Metal / 32 PAC Metal | WinCtrl Ursa Minor Sidestick |Velocity One Rudder | MiniCockpit FCU and EFIS | WinCtrl MCDU | Stream Deck XL | Tobii Eye Tracker | Pimax Crystal Light | Doug

At any rate, looks like Pimax are onto a fix shortly I had OpenXR installed before this update and it allowed me to make a few adjustments after this update. I found my cloud issue (display jumping out of the cockpit) back with the last Pimax update. The fix (I believe as I tried a couple of things) is to 'Reset Horizontal Calibration' in Pimax Play. You have to hold the headset has if your looking at the monitor else the in headset menu for calibration will be off. I did a couple of other things like turning off, 'Fix Foveated Rendering' and unchecking 'Smart Smoothing'. Then I did a full shut down/reboot. Not sure which one solved my issue (IPD is still a problem) but the headset runs great now maybe better than before so I'm leaving well enough alone.😶 I might even skip the next update or two...🫣 Edited September 30, 20241 yr by Dillon FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
October 1, 20241 yr Well, I've joined the 'Another One Here Who Just Got a Pimax Crystal Light' club 🙂 Mine arrived yesterday. Well packaged and leadtimes weren't too bad (about 3 weeks). Only downer on the delivery is that, even though I held back on ordering until the DMAS earpieces were back in stock, and my order confirmed and took the money for them, none were in the box. I've emailed Pimax Support but have had no response yet. But the set-up has been pretty good so far. @Dillon 's thread here, @Fielder 's too and the info and advice from them and other owners, and videos such as the one the VR Flight Sim Guy did that @Dillon linked, have all been invaluable. Following @Dillon's advice, I'm taking things as patiently as I can, tweaking here and there and doing lots of trial and error stuff. And, importantly, steady progress is being made. In no particular order: - Dillon says HAGS-off; VR Flight Sim Guy prefers HAGS-on; I'm with Dillon - HAGS-on gave me stutters that HAGS-off doesn't - Gosh, it's uncomfortable at first!! I have the thicker 15mm front pad, the enhanced adjustable top strap thingy and spent a LONG time (and still am) making tweaks to the two knob adjusters and the strap. I also took my 200g back-weight off my Reverb and cobbled it up to work with the Crystal. Getting there, slowly... - IPD adjuster and IPD display works fine for me (I'm still running on 1.30.01.01) and I can get to what I know is right (even though it reads as 65mm whereas my prescription is 63) - I'll come back to glasses below but where I'm at with visuals: *Last night, pre doing some of Flight Sim Guys tweaks, managed to get visual clarity - at the one-down-from-best resolution - to the best I've ever seen in VR. Details outside I never knew were there before; the ability to be able to look at one instrument, then be able to keep your head still and look round with eyes only at pretty much all of the others without loss of clarity. *There is, however, a bit of a wave when I look around - a bit like looking though old-fashioned glass where the view distorts a little bit as you sweep past the view. Not bad, but there. * There is also a bit of lag. It's teeny, but with the Reverb, it's JUST like you're there when you look from instrument to instrument moving your head. With this, you can sense that it's an image. I'm confident that I'll be able to sort the lag with some settings changes. * Last night there were judders when banking or taxying or when moving your view fast. This is much improved with some of VR Flight Sim Guy's suggestions but, of course still work in progress. It has to be said that, even though I haven't reduced the resolution setting, some of the MSFS VR Graphics tweaks suggested have softened the clarity a touch, Again, plenty more tweaking to do. - The biggie, though, is glasses. Still lots of work to do on this to come to a firm conclusion but, based on queries in this and other forums and a bit of googling and responses from one of two Pimax forum moderators, I was fast coming to the conclusion that the usual 'Distance Prescription' advice for glasses or lens inserts wasn't going to be right for this headset. My hunch was that the prescription needed would be closer to display screen 'Medium-Distance Prescription'. I already had a pair of cheap single-vision lens glasses with a Distance prescription that I used with the HP Reverb. So, while I was waiting for the Pimax to arrive, I ordered a pair of cheap single-vision 'Mid-distance' glasses. The results, for me, are stark. Mid-distance prescription glasses: In-cockpit ; Outside view from cockpit; External view : Crisp and clear Distance prescription glasses: In-cockpit ; Outside view from cockpit; External view : Not useable. Blurred in all cases like when you borrow a pair of a short-sighted friend's glasses and try them on. Well - it might be just me... but I don't think so. I am trying in various places to get some clarity (forgive the pun)...because for glasses wearers (and there's a lot of us) this is a big deal. Especially if the advice we are being given is wrong. I'm still finding that the bottom of the headset rests on my cheekbones but nowhere near as much. October 1, 20241 yr " Last night there were judders when banking or taxying or when moving your view fast. " Jitters when moving view fast (turning your head) can be caused by not enough performance (settings to high), or by room light not being ideal in intensity, or not being evenly lit on both sides in front of you. Open XR toolkit works with these Pimax headsets. For one thing, it displays fps and whole lot of visual settings. The Crystal light has foveated rendering, but not dynamic foveated rendering (the Crystal has DFR, but the Crystal Light does not). Foveated rendering is reducing the resolution on the periphery (so as to increase fps. With DFR, maximum resolution is centered where your eyes are pointed, it changes as you move your eyes (not your head). The game or sim has to support DFR. DCS flightsim does, MSFS2020 does not. It is not clear whether MSFS2024 will or not. DFR increases fps quite a lot (30%?), normal foveated rendering maybe increases it maybe 10% or so. Getting the IPD (pupil separation distance) correct is important. And this is where the Pimax Crystal Light shines because the knob is an electronic rotary encoder (I think). Anyway, as you turn it digital readouts are displayed in 1/10 of a millimeter precision. Like 62.7 or 59.3. You can read these numbers as you move the dial. If you learn that best is 61.4, then you can turn the wheel until 61.4 is displayed in bright digits (until you exit the adjustment feature. October 1, 20241 yr Anyway, so last night flying out of Orbx London City Airport I was getting 53 fps and after turning up the settings 37 fps. No stutters. 53: Pimax play resolution Medium (the middle of 3 choices), MSFS settings: DLSS Ultra Performance, Render preset High End. 37: Same, but DLSS quality increased two stages to Balanced. the choices are: Quality, Balanced, Performance, Ultra Performance. I much prefer this because everything looks nicer, and there still are no stutters. There's people on Youtube getting better fps, but they have 4090 gpu. October 2, 20241 yr The highest graphics I can run is: Pimax play resolution Medium (the middle of 3 choices) MSFM rendering high end DLSS Quality This gives me 30-31 fps, smooth. But is my highest quality images. If I try settings higher in Pimax Play or MSFS, then I get stutters when looking fast to the sides by turning my head. All of the above are with traffic slider in MSFS options set to 20. 100 is maximum but is a resource hog. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
