SWS PC-12 Latest Installer not Opening

Recommended Posts

On 3 Sept last I started a topic in this forum entitled "SWS PC-12 Update 3Sept 2024". I wanted to discuss the new update installer not opening.  The topic seems to have been hijacked and there was little to no discussion I had hoped for.  I'm starting again in the hope someone may come up with a suggestion or two.

My problem is this; I've downloaded the latest update for the SWS PC-12.  There was one last week and another on Monday 9 Sept 2024.  I have unzipped the file with WinZip.  When I double click on the installer, or click on "Run as Administrator", a small blue spinning circle appears for about 15 seconds and then disappears, and nothing happens.  No matter how many times I download the file from my SWS account, unzip it, and try to run the installer it fails to open.  I have uninstalled the previous version of the PC-12 as per SWS Facebook instructions.  I have re-installed the older version with no problems.  There seems to be a problem with this new installer.

I've even tried turning off my anti-virus in case there was a clash.  It made no difference.  I also checked my anti-virus history and there's no mention of any activity.

This is the first time I have had any problems installing a program.  It does seem odd that the older version of the PC-12 installs without any problems.

I have a couple of questions;

1. Is anyone else having a similar problem with the new PC-12 update installer, and if so, did they overcome it?

2. Does anyone have any suggestions what could be causing the installer not to open and any remedies to overcome this?

Yes, I know SWS have a Discord account.  The problem there is that I have the upmost difficulty in trying to figure out Discord.  I've never been able to get in.  I'm past the stage where I've given up and got rid of it.

Thanks George for the suggestion.  Tried opening the download as you suggested but the installer still refuses to open.

Really frustrating.

Just wondering if your copy of windows didn't like the file source. Check the installer properties using File Explorer to see if there is an unblock box.

In this case the installer worked fine for me after using WinRar to extract to the Hard Drive.

Still left me wondering why I'd bothered.

Just a late thought try downloading again using a new browser like Opera..you never know!

Be sure you've run the SWS uninstaller first.  If you still have the z-SWS...? folder in community, it hasn't uninstalled.

You mentioned disabling your anti-virus.  ...was that 3rd party or Windows Defender?

I did run into a problem where Windows Defender flagged it as a false positive.  I had to click "run anyways" for setup to execute.  Try making a manual exception in Windows Defender if you haven't already and turn off any 3rd party AV,  if you have it.

Also, be sure to just double-click the executable.  Don't run it as administrator.

What topic starter describe is exactly what happened to be with another 3rd party developer. Window 11 defender would quarantine executable file as soon as I started.

I just installed SWS PC-12 under windows 11 and have no issue. I would recommend to try bring Windows 11 software update and software defender updates up to date  and try again.

Nippa, that was a brilliant suggestion.  Going into the installer "Properties" there was indeed an "unblock box".  I ticked this box and low and behold the installer opened and installed the update.  So, a big thankyou to you Nippa.  I'd love to buy you a beer but unfortunately won't be heading to the UK from NZ any time soon.

To others who gave suggestions; thankyou also for coming on board.
