iam hoping the 9900x will be a little more zippier outside of the sim than the 7800x3D is , for me anyway

i  Mike have you been on the sauce lol!, yeah i will be looking at the x3d's when they come out , but hopefully the 9900x will be enough for me , just wished i would have researched ( i never really do ) a liitle more didnt realise the 9xxxx none 3d also had dual chiplets, i would have probably gone for the 7900x . anyway we will see first world problems 😊

hi, yes having looked into it  that's one of the ways to disable it , my concern is if you turn off core parking does it have any negative performance in the sim. i normally set high/ultra performance anyway in power settings 😊

I run core parking on my rig without any issues. It can be disabled in BIOS or set your power setting to high/ultra performance. With core parking enabled, I see a 20 -30% increase in frames with less video card GPU demand.

forgive my ignorance but who was nickN ?

The author of this guide:

While it was written for FSX back in 2014, his approach was basically getting a very good foundation (i.e., computer and Windows setup) before setting up the sim. I still follow these principles (only as guidelines) for setting up my rigs.

Sadly he passed away a couple of years ago.

DId you knew this? I followed his Instructions and have no issues with core parking anymore.

That's the video that was posted in this thread

You're right - the video only applies to 7900X3D and 7950X3D (Ryzen CPUs with asymmetric architecture).

After updating to latest BIOS version, changing CPPC from auto to driver, I got a boot failure. Might not apply to all motherboards of course.

Anyway, it's easy to check if core parking works with the Ryzen Master app. Also, amd3dvcacheSvc should be running (task manager - services).

As my 7800x3D is a weakling in the memory controller department , ive ordered a 9900x to replace it.  and just found out even the x R9's utilize core parking 🥴, is anyone using this chip in msfs without using core parking and does it make any difference . i could have waited for the 9xxx3d but as i sim at 4k its not essential for me , i just cant have this semi dysfunctional 7800x3d in my case anymore ! lol. any info is greatly appreciated

just a quick update , think i got the 7800x3d working properly this morning , 2 runs of cinebench r23 at expo 6000!, did this by changing a setting in bios in "amd overclocking " in  there is a setting called something like " let the motherboard take control" or something like that . anyway looks like now after 11 months of trying i can get to 6000 🫰. thing is the 9900x is getting delivered this morning lol

just to finally add to this post. never had a 12 core CPU before , i am actually amazed at smoothness and raw power of this thing at 120hz 4K .7800x3d is the top CPU for gaming at the moment BUT that's at 1080 and maybe 1440p " in the game", with 3 screens and 4 streamdecks this CPU as taken it to the next level both in game and outside , very very pleased with the 9900x

first gaming test reviews suggest disappointing similar or even lower results compared to the 7800x3D and draws up to twice the power because the 9900X is missing 3D-V-Cache. example: Counter Strike 2: 107 watt.  Ryzen 7 7800X3D: only 53 Watt. I would like to see benchmarks for MSFS 2020 but I don't expect any miracles. probably best to wait again for the x3D version with 3D-V-Cache:

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-9-9900X-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-7800X3D/4171vsm2081998

"The Ryzen 9000 CPUs have the same integrated graphics, PCIe lanes, USB support and DRAM controller as the Ryzen 7000 series. The only difference is improved cores which have moved from TSMC's 5 nm process to 4 nm. The new cores offer 15% more performance under cherry-picked conditions but for latency-sensitive workloads, like gaming, they are just few percent faster. The 9600X, 9700X, 9900X, and 9950X are priced at $280, $360, $500, and $650, respectively, making them $80-$200 USD more expensive than the 7000 series. Since the 7000 series flopped (7800X3D somewhat excluded) due to unrealistic pricing, slow boot times, high platform costs and windows gamebar requirements etc., the 9000 series is more or less DOA. When the 9000X3D variants launch (expected in early 2025) gamers who play cache sensitive games such as SoTTR or Factorio with a 4090 and don’t mind frame drops, may find value in the 9800X3D."

hi iam not trying to make any claims here at all. all i can say is that the overall "snappyness" of both the sim and the system as a whole is way better than it was with the 7800x3d but thats just my opinion 😊

nothing wrong with "opinion", but when it comes to performance comparisons, nothing beats benchmarks. and those benchmarks for MSFS 2020 I have not seen yet.
