October 3, 20241 yr X870 motherboards: worth it or not? TL;DR: probably not worth the added price. X670 should be fine for the Ryzen 9000-series. Even a B650 might be fine. Btw, no news yet on the upcoming 9800X3D? 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

You can get USB4 with an ASROCK Taichi Lite.. which is a B650e board. October 3, 20241 yr VRMs are higher quality on high-end boards, which *might* result in better overclock stability. Ive got a Gigabyte X670 AORUS ELITE AX with these specs: Quote Twin 16+2+2 Digital VRM Design 70A Smart Power Stage* 2X Copper PCB PCIe 5.0 Ready PCB * Power Stage maximum current capacity is based on VCORE Phase. There’s usually better VRM and MOSFET cooling on the higher-end boards. Not sure how much of that is needed though, to be honest. I’ve been under the impression that it’s probably not very useful outside of those extreme OC scenarios that aim to get insane 3DMark and Cinebench scores. High-end boards may also have more advanced BIOS settings. I should probably ask myself why I payed 283USD for this relatively high-end board. IIRC it was one of the most purchased/recommended boards in my country at the time. I’m using a negative curve on CCD0 as well as improved primary and secondary DDR5 timings. not sure if these type of BIOS settings are available on all boards. I corrected my post above. I meant to say the opposite: "you CAN NOT overclock the AMD 7850X3D anyway, so VRMs 5% overclocking potential is no real topic for me". with the AMD 7850X3D we are not in INTEL-Kansas anymore. It might be worth waiting for the 9800X3D though, as the X3D chips have so far performed really well in MSFS. I honestly expect more from coding optimisation potential in MSFS 2024 at this point.
