October 19, 20241 yr I found these tests rather disappointing, but we'll have to wait and see if MSFS 2024 can make any considerable use of that extra cache and those 8 more cores. https://www.dsogaming.com/news/early-gaming-benchmarks-for-the-amd-ryzen-9-9950x3d-leaked/ Edited October 19, 20241 yr by turbomax AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.
October 20, 20241 yr I have to admit I saw those reports a couple of days ago and was a little disappointed the improvement wasn't greater. Low single digit gains in two of the tree titles tested isn't a great motivation to upgrade from a 7000X3D series. Then again, we know MSFS does love the extra cache so hopefully gains in MSFS2020 and of course MSFS2024 are closer to the 10-15% mark. October 20, 20241 yr I have seen a report that suggets a 10% boost this GPU for MSFS2020. Bruce Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." October 21, 20241 yr Author back to overclocking and BIOS tweaks? no thanks for me, especially not if you run the game at 4K or at even higher resolution in VR . I'd rather be flying than waste my time with stability issues for a few fps more, now that we have reached 60-120 fps. "don't be surprised if you run into stability issues" 🤣 Ryzen 7 9800X3D will launch November 7, two weeks after Intel Core Ultra 200S. Intel has already confirmed Core Ultra 9 285K, Core Ultra 7 265K and Core Ultra 5 245K will not surpass Ryzen 7 7800X3D. this in turn means Ryzen 7 9800X3D will surpass the latest Intel CPUs even more. AMD Ryzen 7-9800X3D: 4,7 - 5,2 GHz clock 120 Watt TDP from US $ 484,- btw: thanks Bruce for that video! October 22, 20241 yr Does that mean buy the best of the current available components your budget allows and spend all your time when MSFS2024 arrives just enjoying exploring the new sim and flying.... Edited October 22, 20241 yr by YMMB

As an aside note there seems to be an increasing disconnect the power of CPUs and GPUs at least for gaming. Where are we going to get the CPUs that can fully feed the upcoming RTX 5090 monster? Perhaps in MSFS2024 better multithreading support will help. Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." October 31, 20241 yr Author I think we all know the difference between These 8 and 16 cores, its just that the 9800x3D was announced today and we are all exited, even though the performance increase of some 8% this time is a ot less than going Form the 5800x3D to the 7800x3D AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.
