Great interview, lots of good questions! I am glad Ben is in agreement that the Star War rain effect looks bad!

XP will never catch up with MSFS in some aspects.
Just as MSFS will never catch up with XP in some aspects.
Other worlds.
Once (in the 80s) I dreamed of colorful shades of airports and aircraft carriers similar to those on the covers of products sold, thinking that it would not be possible in my lifetime.
Now covers (product presentations) are not able to show what these products really show....
Now I can fly in VR and it is so close to my memories from real life that oh....
And which sim is better... (???)
Both truths are known to everyone.

Considering they both use entirely different engines, im not surprised, but than I care about xplane dont use the other one.

The only path forward (to compete with other sim) is to leverage a 3rd party earth and rendering engine, but looks like they are still not contemplating that, to the detriment of simmers worldwide.

Huh. Judging by the way so many flap their gums, it would appear as if the effort is to fully extinguish XP and LR. I suppose we partially have the US DoD and various other federal agency customers to help prevent that from ever happening.

They'd expend more resources forcing everyone in the company to suddenly shift gears to a 3rd party rendering engine than they would pushing forward with replacing DSF.

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

A very interesting interview with a person that knows his craft and is commited to it.

A strange response to a valid opinion.  MSFS2024 is released in a couple of weeks with terrain 4,000 times more detailed than 2020.  Many people looking for a flight simulator will choose MSFS2024 because of the big step forward in scenery.  I like XP12 and think it looks great with added scenery and sat imagery, but serves a niche that will always be wanted by many simmers, so not sure if it needs to compete with MSFS2024 scenery.

If it DOES want to compete, it really must improve the default scenery to tempt more simmers to it.

Needs? Wants? You're conflating quite a few thoughts there. Sounds like you're a bit confused. But you do get one thing right: there will continue to be a population of people willing to buy XP. 4000 pebbles along the streams, or not. Including various in USGOV.

But hey, I suppose there's no harm in delusionally thinking that LR's movements are big enough to be a "detriment" or benefit to the world wide flightsim market.

With quoting a post like that, you must be a politician.

Precisely, and that is why XP12 will continue to serve its niche customers so well.
