Ashamed, can't switch on cabin lights in GA in FS2024

Featured Replies

I must be overlooking something basic: I am not able to switch on cabin lights in C152 or C172 in MS2024.

I start on a runway , engine running, battery and alternator on. Instruments are powered, flaps operate. But the cabin lights AND also all external lights (strobe, taxi, nav...) are off, irrespective of the positions of switches (!)

When at night, only a handful of buttons shine light, the rest of the dashboard (and the complete plane) is in the dark.

I have almost 600 hrs. in MS2020 in GA and now I am not able to switch on the lights... Totally ashamed :).

I thought the 172 original was known to have an electrical bug so you couldn't even start it up? Or no avionics or similar?

  • You are right, I discovered this only now. Some say the analogue C172 has been fixed only a few hours ago (and not mentioned in release notes).

I guess that you are using the SUPERNOVA setting?

Start at a gate, power up the aircraft manually and then see if you can switch on the lights.

I sure can. And since I never start straight on the runway, I have  suspicion this is where the issue lies.

Oh, I see! Good idea, I will give it a try. Thank you.

I was skipping the gate just to avoid the walk-around to save time.

OK, so the the reason is not in starting on a runway with the engine running.

Even when I start on GA parking with cold and dark, do the walk-around, prepare everything and start the engine, part of the airplane does not have elektricity. This is true for all GA planes I tried (C152, C172, ported C152 JPL).

The instruments (mostly) work, the flaps work etc. , but there are no cockpit lights and no external lights (taxi, landing, strobes...)

I have no idea what's happening. I still have FS2020 installed.

Would anyone have at least a remote idea what to try, please?

BTW by "cabin lights" I mean COCKPIT lights and INSTRUMENT lights. Thank you.

I have had the exact same problems since day1. For instance all the light switches on an Alpha yoke do absolutely nothing. And if I change the keyboard setting to 2020, then pushing the L key does nothing. For me at least.

Thank you for the confirmation! Also for me it happens from day one.

I tried all keyboard combinations, checked all breakers, but nothing. No internal or external lights. They are just permanently off.

which aircraft exactly?

make sure you have no controller bindings set to turn those lights ON/OFF. check all of them.

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

To illustrate: C172 Classic at night:

Some progress with external lights:

During the day you cannot see that anything is on. That's what confused me. But at night you can see the projected light. The external aircraft lights itself are somewhat small, but at night I can see that they are actually on:

C172 analogue, C152.

I checked the bindings, all of them. They seem to be ok.
