Agreed...where's that come from...

  • I wouldn't say VR is "broken" in FS2024 though. Last night I flew the G1000 C172 from PABE to PASM in FS2024, using rain weather preset, real time like 7:30pm local, season rolled back in Septemb

I read you other posts about RAM. I have 2x32GB for some months, but as a test maybe will try with only 1x32GB. Would be stupid if that helps btw. But first I will try changing... nothing. Because the problem also started without me changing anything.

Broken indeed. Performance is ... totally inconsistent.

I was lucky to have a few weeks of reasonably well VR behaviour, but since yesterday I cannot start a single flight at any major default airport I tried.

Flights on small airfields are fine.

But.

What happens is this:

I load a flight in 2D, I get in the cockpit in 2D out of walkaround mode. Then wait for some minutes. Then go in VR. I am again outside the cockpit. Apparently in walkaround mode. I wait a few random minutes - not a problem. As soon as I go in the cockpit or press Center VR View the image freezes and... CTD. So going VR is not a problem by itself, but changing to the cockpitview is, and only at big airports.

I of course completely removed FS2024 and all traces, and reinstalled the sim. Empty community folder.

Varjo Aero 13900K 4090 64 DDDR5. Latest Varjo Base. Latest Nvidia driver. With and without latest DLSS. 4000+ hours in VR in MSFS2020.

MSFS2020 still runs ok, apart from light stuttering.

It is strange, random and very very annoying (yes, useless to report here).

Update: so today I started 6 flights from small Burning BLue Designs fields in the UK, EGLC (ORBX) and LSZH (where I had >15 CTD last weekend): all good! 38 - 50 fps and rather smooth. I noticed: memory usage was now about 29 GB, whereas it was 40 GB in the same areas last weekend..... ??? And FYI: I did again not change a single setting.

Good to hear! I have not been back in the sim again so hopefully I’ll have the same luck. This sounds like server side issues or changes.

The default VR viewing point is wrong with almost every plane I have tested. Why? I think that when I reset the VR viewing point, I should sit at optimal place. It looks like VR would not be tested at all!

Are there still no plans for them to fix the EFB in VR anytime soon? You can't move, resize, or interact with it in any way still. Unless you use the built in virtual cockpit tablet, like in the 172, but not all planes have these.

It's "Planned for SU2", pretty pathetic really.

Jeeze. How long can we even expect to wait for that?

VR is still broken with autogen lights at night.

At best guess sometime in the "summer" seeing as they only want to release 4 Sim Updates per year.

Continuing my quest to really want try to learn to like MSFS2024 in VR - in spite of what it does to make that as difficult as possible - I now mirror most of my decent flights by completing them in MSFS2020 and then repeating exactly the same flight in MSFS2024.

And, both visually and performance-wise, I'm starting to get there.  DLSS4 has been a game changer on my system for both my Crystal Light and Quest 3 - although the artifacts in single propellor aircraft make it unusable for those and so I use TAA, but I am now using DLSS/Quality for everything else in both sims (and previously, I have been staunch TAA advocate).  However, 'starting to get there' is defined as MSFS2024 visuals are beginning to get closer to MSFS2020.  And, gosh, from nowhere, even the VR toolbar works now!  But to call it an upgrade would - at the moment - surely be widely regarded as a trades-description transgression.

But gosh, for all my steady progress, MSFS2024 is a SUPREMELY irritating package.  Every MSFS2020 flight starts without surprises and completes successfully.  EVEN REPEATING THE VERY SAME FLIGHT IN THE VERY SAME SESSION MSFS2024 stumbles 2 out of every 3 attempts.  The most common one is that it reverts to some random controls settings.  Why can't it keep the one you've just used, for the same aircraft, in the same session???  So I get headset on, press the joystick button to go into VR and nothing.  So off comes my headset, esc, settings...and of course my 'Set As Default' requests have been cast aside and it's done what IT wants to do.

As one of my bosses used to say when you were pushing perhaps a little too hard to press home a point:

"Are you TRYING to make me angry?"
