December 20, 20241 yr I wouldn't say VR is "broken" in FS2024 though. Last night I flew the G1000 C172 from PABE to PASM in FS2024, using rain weather preset, real time like 7:30pm local, season rolled back in September. I really enjoyed very second of it. I was IFR (with SayIntentions.AI) in and out the clouds/rain, and the golden lighting by sunset is gorgeous. Overall everything works well and it feels just like a real flight. Being at such a remote location, I would say PASM and the tiny town of St Mary's look great. BTW, I flew PABE to PASM b/c there was a real fatal accident in the same flight at PASM in September: https://asn.flightsafety.org/wikibase/424343 One of the former instructors from my club was flying over there too for job. I heard this accident is one the reasons he decided to leave Alaska and come back to get a job locally. Just to add, the EFB works pretty well in FS2024. I was able to pull out the charts of LOC 17 at PASM in the middle of flight, once I realized I need to click on "FAA" charts option. Man, such a luxury having the IAP displayed right next to you in VR without using any addons. With a bit zoom in it's 100% working. I wish though we can eventually move the EFB around and I'd put it on the yoke like I do IRL with iPad using ForeFlight. It's the sum of all parts which makes it "broken" for me and the attitude of the developers towards VR since release in December 2020 doesn't help either, yeah when it works it is a pleasure but there's far too many needless issues all mounting up + degraded performance it just ends up bringing me down when I keep trying to have a decent flight. It's simply a sad state of affairs and yet again we have to wait weeks/months for fixes to simple bugs - I'd be ashamed if I released a product in this state personally. It has been reported by me and other people. It's not on the list of bugs to be fixed either, last time I checked anyways. There is also the black lines that appear in water bodies and reflective lines visible in one eye and not the other. I can't believe 2024 released with these glaring bugs. January 9, 20251 yr thanks very much Jon, sounds too good to be true after the hotfix change log only mentioned some x-box fixes. later: yes, it seems this got fixed indeed. didn't expect this at all since I didn't see it mentioned in the change log. finally, twilight and night flying in VR is great fun again. January 11, 20251 yr I'm just about to do a post documenting some of my recent experiments. While the task is still 'it would be classed success to get it at least close to MSFS2020', I think I'm getting there, slowly but surely. I think, though, that the full streaming approach will continue to be an issue while ever MS regard VR as non-mainstream (in both meanings of the phrase). January 18, 20251 yr Broken indeed. Performance is ... totally inconsistent. I was lucky to have a few weeks of reasonably well VR behaviour, but since yesterday I cannot start a single flight at any major default airport I tried. Flights on small airfields are fine. But. What happens is this: I load a flight in 2D, I get in the cockpit in 2D out of walkaround mode. Then wait for some minutes. Then go in VR. I am again outside the cockpit. Apparently in walkaround mode. I wait a few random minutes - not a problem. As soon as I go in the cockpit or press Center VR View the image freezes and... CTD. So going VR is not a problem by itself, but changing to the cockpitview is, and only at big airports. I of course completely removed FS2024 and all traces, and reinstalled the sim. Empty community folder. Varjo Aero 13900K 4090 64 DDDR5. Latest Varjo Base. Latest Nvidia driver. With and without latest DLSS. 4000+ hours in VR in MSFS2020. MSFS2020 still runs ok, apart from light stuttering.
