Featured Replies

Have you seen the European weather forecast just lately? Possible wind speeds Thurs eve/Fri morning 30000 feet upwards of over 200/250mph....you will be able to fly east coast USA to Europe in an hour!! If you are flying the North Atlantic Tracks west to east and FS2020/24 simulates the  jet stream corectly then it shud be a quick trip...... Enjoy and keep ya seatbelt fastened!

Shortest I've ever done it with 200 mph tailwinds in real life was 4 hrs 45 minutes but that was to EGLL which as we know is not the EU LOL.

Right now I'm making up about an hour and ten minutes doing 640 kts across the ground in the sim.  Newark right to the edge of the EU coast was 5hrs 29 minutes.

Awesome. One winter night I did KWRI to EGUN in a KC-10. We filed for 350 but initially was held down for a while at 290. We had a load of gas as usual, but noticed we had a ground speed of 700 to 750 with a tail wind. I noticed the penalty burn at 290 was, ya know, kinda evened out with that tailwind. We cancelled our 350 request and stayed at 290 all the way across. Knocked it out in about 4 hours🤣.

The state of the jet stream at 21:00Z Wednesday evening. Max speed is 180kts. It will strengthen further over the next 24 hours.

The blue dot is me - 3 miles east of EGCC. You can see currently conditions in my sig. Dead calm currently. 😁

Time to bust out Concorde for a record-setting KJFK-->EGCC run.

Actually, you might fly ABOVE the fastest winds for all I know, although I don't know the specifics of this particular jetstream situation.  Could happen if you go to FL60!

Out of curiosity I might try this tomorrow. I’ll post in the Hangar forum as I’m using P3D of course. Oh, and it would have to be to EGLL. The routing for Manchester is not great as Ireland is in the way so a longer subsonic leg would defeat the purpose.

If you want to get to the EU coast more quickly, make your destination EINN... 😉

There isn’t a country called the EU. It’s a political organisation.

Oooooh yes, the Azores - nice!

(Greenland isn't part of the EU though - it withdrew from the EC, as it then was, in 1985.)

Fuelling up Concorde now at 06:16 local (11:15Z) at JFK. Departure within the next 30 mins. Expected arrival at Heathrow around 15:10Z.

Anyone wanting to hitch a ride with this jet stream is advised to fly asap. There's a major storm heading to the British Isles / Ireland later this evening. Gusts of over 100mph forecast at Irish airports. I imagine all will be closed until Saturday afternoon / evening.

118kt wind at LEOES!

I don't know what's worse: The fact that aviation still uses nautical units for speed or that people convert it into imperial system.

Stay with knots, so that we at least know from what base we convert into reasonable units. 😉

Weather warnings for the British public always use mph. Knots is a mystery to most.

Took off at 11:50Z. I have a 96kt tail wind at LINND. ISA Dev is -4. Nice. Concorde likes cold air.

Looks like it's just going to be a few hours early tomorrow morning where I am. Probably won't even be that. I'll take my CAS Cub up first thing and fly north, see what happens.

A tailwind of 66kts even at FL516 is producing a very impressive ground speed.

Topic moved to Hangar Chat.
