Backup 2020 / 2024?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the correct way to backup 2020 / 2024 so that you dont have to start over on doing reinstall? This is for steam and of course the Backup Files option the Steam does not seem to work..Hard to believe.

It took me 10 minutes to re-install 2024. I have my Community folder on a separate drive.  Install 2024, point it to the community folder and job done.

I wanted to try the FSS B727 so I installed 2020 - took 5 hours!  Much more reason to back up!

I have a backup of the community so I can restore to anyplace. I guess you did not have a backup of the 2020 community folder? Is that why it took so long? When you say point it to the CFolder at what point are you doing that?

2024 settings you can change where the community folder is. After the 10 minute re-install, change settings to point to Community folder then your done.

To install FAST the MSFS2020 you can do this:
Save ALL Files from your "..Official\OneStore" folder.
-> My folder is 414GB !
When you do a new istall from the sim, the run the installer.
When the installer begin to download the files, then stop it.
Copy all saved files form your "OneStore" folder into the new ..Official\OneStore" folder.
When all files are copied, run the MSFS2020 installer again, so the installer see all files are downloaded.
and so the sim can be faster installed. you have not to wait for download all files again.
All Settings from your ould install should be set by the Data from the cloud.

^ This. Re-install 2020 takes about 20mins if you use the above method.

I make backups on a regular basis with Macrium Reflect. I have three M.2 drives (System 1TB, Sim 4TB, Data 4TB) which needs some time, but it works niceley overnight. I have a 16 TB HDD for Backups

How? Where are those settings during install?

Anyway I defined my xBoxGames folder as under F: in the xBox settings, and at least the updates I've received to the beta after signing in through xBoxInsider didn't mess around with my install...

But where is that option?

Thx!

It's in the My Library of MSFS2024. It's the smaller of the two ship's wheels icons. Move your community listed there to somewhere else using MSFS to do it. Now your MSFS2024 is only 50GB instead of hundreds (because when you next boot up MSFS, it thinks that you have no community packages) . And so a reinstall is quick. And then after the reinstall, you move the community path back using MSFS My Library, if you want to.
