Preferred ways to get Simbrief OFP into 2024?

Featured Replies

Just two days into 2024, finally got my controllers and everything else setup.  What I did for my maiden full flight from KBJC>KTEX in the Longitude is this:

  1. Created a typical plan in Simbrief.   Downloaded it to the Win 11 Downloads folder.
  2. Put the Longitude on a ramp for departure at KBJC in the world map.  Very thankful that now show type (small/med/large/heavy) by hovering
  3. Opened EFB, scrolled to bottom and used the Load/Save Plan option, and found the .pln in Downloads.  The 'Load Flight Plan' button on the upper left of the EFB brought up an empty list and never could figure out how they appear there.  Instead of downloading to Downloads perhaps I could download them into another folder that that button would link to.
  4. From there I noticed the entire Simbrief OFP did not populate, for example passenger count, altitude, etc, so had to manually enter those.

What's the preferred method, and is there a way to bypass the walkaround and be in the cockpit with things like pitot and jet engine covers, wheel chocks off ready to go.

Thanks in advance.  I know there are various YT's on this and visited many trying to deal with controller setup but looking for more consensus opinions on best ways to get plans into this and similar planes efficiently.

The best way to do it is with Simbrief Dispatch: https://dispatch.simbrief.com/home/downloads

It allows you to download the FP directly from the EFB (except for the alternative destination airport, that has to be added manually, who knows why) and file it with the ATC (which won't work anyway but that's another story).

In order to get your flightplan easily downloaded into the FS 2024 EFB you should set it up using the new Flight Planner App:

Flight Planner

You can cut&paste your Simbrief flightplan into it.

Loading and Fueling still has to be done manually, at least for now... Hope they find some way to import that data.

OFC some addon aircraft and even some default like the Inibuilds A321N and 330, have on their own EFBs the option to import from Simbrief, and then you'll get the loading and fueling too.

As @jcommalready pointed out: just copy the simbrief flight plan into the MSFS flight planner. Works every time (fuel and loading doesn't).

The by far easiest and quickest method is the one MrFuzzy posted. Simply use the SimBrief EFB plugin!

You can skip:
- having to go to the MSFS planner site
- having to manually copy the plan from SB to the planner
- having to save the plan in the MSFS planner

And loading the plan into the sim is also done with at least one less click when you use the SB EFB plugin. 😉 Why go through all those extra steps if you don't need to!

Another advantage of using the SB EFB plugin is that you can do everything you do on the SB site in that plugin too, so editing a flight or checking various things can all be done in the EFB. The MSFS planner in the EFB is different from the one in a browser so it doesn't offer the same options and you may have to go to that site again if you want to change something (specially if you want to edit an SB flight and need to go through all extra steps all over again).

I cancelled Navigraph, do you know if there is a way to make Simbrief use the MSFS 2024 database when creating a plan instead of the outdated Navigraph cycle?

Thanks.

No, SB can only work with a Navigraph AIRAC... but I found out (while using SB together with MSFS2024 and its default navdata) it seldom gives me problems. I do fly in Europe only though: not sure if that makes a huge difference.

I while ago I tested SB with MSFS2024 using a 3 year old AIRAC and from the 6 flights I planned only ONE gave me problems but those were quite easily solved. A while later I flew with a 2 year old AIRAC for a week or so and I didn't run into problems once. I actually forgot I was using an old AIRAC on SB.

The free SB AIRAC usually is 1 to maximum 2 years old (it gets renewed every March) and the changes usually are small so I don't foresee any huge problems with this. (I also cancelled Navigrapgh.)

Whenever I do run into (more frequent) problems (in the future) I plan on buying a one month subscription from Navigraph ONLY to update the AIRAC in SimBrief...! I won't even bother updating the AIRAC in MSFS2024 because the new navdata from 2024 seems to be pretty darned good and quite similar to tne Navigraph one.

BTW The ONLY reason I keep on using SimBrief is because of BATC: as soon as BATC offers a way to load MSFS plans I'm done with Navigraph and SimBrief completely. (I only fly the Vision Jet so no addon airliners that require Navigraph.)
