March 24, 20251 yr My Sony tv which I used with msfs 2024 is needing replaced, I have been running msfs 2024 at 4k 60hz with sync set at half refresh this keeps fps at a constant 30 and I’m happy with the smooth experience, I have been looking at monitors and a lot run at 120 or 144 refresh rates if I chose one of those can I still run msfs at the above settings so I still get a smooth experience or go with a smaller tv screen size(43in) at 60hz. jim thank you,Jim MSI A520M-A PRO,AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 8 Core, 16 Threads 4.1Ghz,Arctic Freezer 36 ARGB Black Edition CPU Cooler,MSI VENTUS 2X Nvidia RTX 4070 12GB Graphics Card,Corsair 32GB Vengeance LPX (2x16GB) 3200Mhz DDR4 Memory,Gigabyte UD750GM 750W Gold Rated Modular PSU,Kingston NV3 2TB NVME M.2 GEN 4 SSD.
March 24, 20251 yr It's a complex situation. Higher refresh rates will allow (usually) a higher fps lock. However, is a higher fps count (provided it is above 30) really matter all that much in flight simming? That again depends on the type of simming you do. Tubeliners don't really need high refresh rates. Low and slow, would (paradoxically). Would a smaller screen size offer the same immersion as a large tv? Doubtful but then again it is really up to what you prefer and the kind of flying you do most. March 25, 20251 yr Before I went to VR I used a samsung 55" 4KTV. I would say that the main reason for using a 4KTV is that it will have built in frame interpolation. So if you set it up properly with a 30hz signal you gonna get 60fps on screen. IMO its as good as if not better than Frame generation. I agree...framer interpolation is fantastic - My only comment would be that on my LG OLED C4s, I do get some artifacts as it tries to "upscale/interpolate" from 30 FPS to 60FPS if I've got V-SYNC set to 1/2 and a refresh rate of 60 Hz (no difference to using frame gen tho - you get artifacts either way in my experience). If I set the TVs to 120Hz however, and lock at 1/3 V-SYNC (40FPS) the amount of artifacts is near zero. I guess upscaling from 40 -> 60 is a LOT better than upscaling from 30 -> 60.... March 25, 20251 yr Author Thinking of getting 42in oled tv 120 refresh rate,if I lock vsync at half refresh rate and don’t get 60fps would I then be able to adjust refresh rate to 60 and vsync to half refresh rate which would give me 30fps which I know on my system runs smooth,at least I will have upraded the tv which I will also use for viewing tv programs thank you,Jim MSI A520M-A PRO,AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 8 Core, 16 Threads 4.1Ghz,Arctic Freezer 36 ARGB Black Edition CPU Cooler,MSI VENTUS 2X Nvidia RTX 4070 12GB Graphics Card,Corsair 32GB Vengeance LPX (2x16GB) 3200Mhz DDR4 Memory,Gigabyte UD750GM 750W Gold Rated Modular PSU,Kingston NV3 2TB NVME M.2 GEN 4 SSD.
March 25, 20251 yr I too bought the LG OLED 42”. It’s the C2 model. Great TV/Monitor. How does one goes about setting the TV to 120Hz and locking V-Sync at 1/3? I’m assuming I have to used the NVidia control panel. I am running an RTX 4090.

I run 100Hz @4K with ultra settings (MSFS 2020) and lock my FPS to 72 which produces a beautifully consistent frame time variance. Sony TV's are well known for their excellent motion handling. I could not be happier with this TV and could never go back to a 43" TV Richard i7-12700K | Noctua NH-D15S Black Version | MSI Pro Z690 - A | 32 GB DDR4 3600 | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 | 1TB WD Blue NMVe (MSFS 2020) | 500 GB WD Black Gen 4 NVMe | 4TB WD Black Conventional | Fractal Design Torrent Case | Seasonic 1000W Gold Plus PSU | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Honeycomb Throttle | Airbus Side Stick | Virpil Rudder Pedals | Sony X90K 55 Inch TV |
March 27, 20251 yr One more question for the boffins: Would a 4K tv work "properly" if I chucked a 1440p signal at it? Advantages/disadvantages? I'm certain my computer would not be able to deal with the demands of a 4K set @4K bearing in mind that I almost always fly add-on tubeliners. March 27, 20251 yr Author Settled on lg 42in oled tv c4 which I have just set up,the 55in was too large for where I do my simming and the 42 fits in nicely running at 120hz vsync on at 33% keeping locked at 40fps not sure if this correct setting but getting a nice smooth experience and excellent visuals on this tv gpu running 63-82% and vram not going above 83% using msfs2024. thanks for all your advice thank you,Jim MSI A520M-A PRO,AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 8 Core, 16 Threads 4.1Ghz,Arctic Freezer 36 ARGB Black Edition CPU Cooler,MSI VENTUS 2X Nvidia RTX 4070 12GB Graphics Card,Corsair 32GB Vengeance LPX (2x16GB) 3200Mhz DDR4 Memory,Gigabyte UD750GM 750W Gold Rated Modular PSU,Kingston NV3 2TB NVME M.2 GEN 4 SSD.

This will clear pixel memory to stop burn-in it takes about 6mins. I don`t leave the screen on when not in use. Raymond Fry.
