FS2024 won't let me move my community folder

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I had the beta update on FS2024 so that I could properly run the inibuilds A350 but since the last update, FS2024 has moved the Community folder into my C drive in the appdata folder and will not let me move it back to where it originally was on another drive. I set it through the marketplace/library/little cog menu but it just reverts back to the appdata file as soon as I select it. This has been brought up on the MSFS forum but no solution suggested as far as I can see. Has anyone had this? What can I do? I haven't got enough space on the C Drive for my community folder.

Cheers all

You will have to edit the UserCfg.opt file under the usual C:\users\<youruser>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache and in the last two entries make sure the second one which reads something like "next boot" is void ( "" ) while the one above it has the path to the folder where you store the Community, FS2020, FS2024 and StreamedDownloads folders...

You can use an addon linker.  That way your actual communtiy folder just has links to files and won't take up space.  I resisted the addon linker thing in 2020, but I'm glad I got on board.  So much easier to manage, and you can manage your libraries without fighting the sim on where the community folder is.

Thanks folks; I can't see the entries you mentioned in the usercfg file and have no idea whatever how to use that addon linker. Never mind.

The beta in-game method does not write to the now second to last line of the Usercfg.opt file.
It's one of the many things wrong with it.
It will have those last two lines, or your simulator would not be working at all.
You will need to manually edit the second to last line, as you have been told above and then save the file.

Search for the entry that reads: "InstalledPackagesPath", and bellow that one the one which includes also the "next boot".

Make the first equal to the path to the folder you created for Community and the rest, i.e.: "D:\MSFS"

I also make sure the second (presently in 1.4.10.0 the last line in "UserCfg.opt") is set to the null string ""

Bless you, chaps, that seems to be sorted now, thank you. I don't know why I was struggling to find that file but I think I was editing the wrong one.

Still not able to resolve after reading above. FS2024 is stuck on 'transfering files to new location'. Attaching screenshot, are the last two lines like this?

You also have to define the community folder location from the library menu in sim, top right cogwheel.

I could not figure how to move the community folder while I was in the beta.

Therefore, what I did was revert to the non beta 2024, and after that, change the community folder in the Library menu to where I wanted it. This was now easy because the non beta allows changes.

And then next, when I reentered the beta, the community folder does not change, it stays where I put it, where I wanted it.

You don't, editing the Usercfg.opt file changes the entry in the in-game Library settings.
In the beta, the opposite is the case, changing the in-game Library setting does not update
the Usercfg.opt file, even though it should.

Unfortunately the sim library is stuck here.https://imgur.com/a/QTukUvF and the changes to the Usercfg file are not displaying. Beta 1.4.11.

Is this what the last few lines should look like?
