Question on DLSS vs TAA on MSFS2024

Featured Replies

I definitely find TAA sharper than DLSS quality but it comes with a FPS performance hit and an increase in VRA< which I have to be wary of.

I do find the scrolling number on displays, radios etc quite blurry (almost laggy), so now I'm wondering what I might be doing wrong reading about the experiences of others here with DLSS being quite sharp.

Things are easier to see in VR. DLSS quality or DLAA shows cleaner scenery than TAA. Every time, everywhere. But the difference is small. TAA is way to go, if you have great hardware. I don't and therefore almost always use DLSS.

Even a 45" monitor or TV shows a smaller glass screen than in real life. The tapes should be wider in a simulation, so that they are readable as they would be in real life. Keep screens same size, but widen the tapes. That's not natural looking, but who cares?

Or as some Youtubers suggest, Asobo should put a mask around glass screens to make DLSS not operate on that one area.

Yes I know, and that is why I said 'minimal blurring' here.  as I get minimal blurring, and I don't use filters,  I wondered if it was filters causing more blurring for you.

Sorry don't start out with intent to be snarky.  But it's those kind of statements you've made here and in other threads that bring the sarcasm out.   How in God's name do you know/think I am seeing 'more blurring' than you?  You can't that's just it.  I just pointed out blurring of GC moving characters blurs in DLSS4 or other it is well known and what everyone hopes eventually is resolved completely as it is in TAA.

TAA with dx11 working well in 4k.

Slight shimmering with light poles etc.

But looks better than dlss4 for me.

Same. I prefer a bit blurriness than the awful shimmering I see when using TAA. Guess those who fly mostly airliners prefer TAA because they rarely look at the scenery while those flying mostly GA prefer DLSS.

Agreed.  TAA looks good, but shimmering in the mid to far distance is off-putting - don't see that with DLSS

It is a reasonable assumption, given that you complain about blurring and I don't.  I  Wondered about filters being a contributing factor as you use them and I don't.  It could be we have the same blurring, but you are more sensitive to it.

I am also one of those having a constant struggle with DLSS, DLAA and TAA. Mainly because my 4080 has only 16GB of VRAM and I easily fill this up to the rim on 4K. AutoFPS does its thing, but still at the edge with e.g. Inibuilds A350 on EGLL with AI Traffic. So I gave DLSS another try and with the Preset K, DLSS4 and the DLSS performance setting, it would be perfect in regard of VRAM, but this issue with blurry displays... so I am again back to DLAA/TAA. And I hope that those VRAM improvements of SU2 will be sufficient to never touch this again 😉

There you go.  And finally, once and for all time:  DLAA adds nothing meaningful over TAA here, just smearing/ghosting of GC characters, that's all, so opting out is a ginormous no-brainer here.

And while we're here:  I don't have significant shimmering others report w/ TAA.  Is it perhaps the Details filter that gets rid of it? 😉

This is an MSFS2024 thread.  To my knowledge, DX11 is not a thing in MSFS2024...

It should become mandatory to show your monitor resolution in your signature.

These threads are pointless because you can't compare 1080p with 1440p or 4K. It also makes a huge difference whether you use an OLED panel or a conventional monitor. Each resolution has its own problems.
