SU2 Beta - weather worst from day to day regarding accuracy

Featured Replies

It's been obvious along last week, and I tried at different airfileds comparing to METAR and GRIB data.

Cloud coverage completely out of sync with reality.

Today took off IRL from Gran Canaria, to Lisboa, around 12:40 UTC and there was even severe weather in the area, lot's of embeded Cbs and on approach to southern Portugal we descended through Ns (Nimbostratus).

Arrived home and started MSFS 2024 SU2 Beta and... skies crystral clear over the Canaries, and most of thr route, which I didn't finis, to LPPT.

Winds, temperatures and barometric pressure look ok though.

Its probably a temporary issue. You have been here long enough to know that if the weather was really an issue everyone and their grandma would have been reporting it here on Avsim and the MSFS forums.. I haven't seen any large recent thread showing a mass outage

The other day someone mentioned it at another forum and other sim.

And it's not the first time e see users reporting such discrepancies.

Well until there is some current WX thread in the MSFS forums its not that serious. Possibly a regional outage or a location not reporting.

You can follow the appropriate channels and zendesk it. Next option is to buy activesky or something. What probably wont get you quickly to a solution is posting here about it.  The WX depiction has been accurate from where i am as i have been tracking WX in the US for my flights the last couple of days. Sorry its not working for you but your next stop should probably be to zendesk.

On top of that you're in the beta.. so if there really is an issue you should be filing a bug report.

Eh - lately their weather doesn't really match metar very well either haha.

Maybe it's a global weather station issue.

True,

and, btw, I use Active Sky, most of the time, although I decided to take this beta as clear of addons as possible.

The fact that it affects various places on Earth, and I tested in Europe, Africa and the USA, not always in the same way or amount of discrepancy is what made me post here.

This is a public forum for MSFS users, right? What should prevent me from posting it here ?

As a side note, I have been cooperating with the Meteo aspects of flight simulation the best I can, because of my day job IRL, because I am a private pilot IRL, because I find the way weather is represented one of the cruciual aspects in flight simulation.

Been beta testing Active Sky since around 2006, almost 20 yrs ...

Thanks for your suggestion regarding posting at the Official MSFS forums but I've given up because of the lack of positive return from the posts I made there, since I became an FS2020 user soon after it's release. And it particlularly makes me think that most of the time it's useless to post there given the way threads are closed...

Zendesk yes, it's a good alternative.

I don't know .. just providing options to people who are unsatisfied with what they presently have and present it on the forums like its a showstopper.

Zendesk yes, it's a good alternative.

Nothing prevents you from posting it here ... but is it an efficient way of moving the solution forward? Or is it most likely to find the misery loves company lot as demonstrated in the immediate post following yours?

Im probably cranky today and i apologize but im just kinda very much over the frankly stupid complaints about EVERY minor infraction that the sim has missed the mark on .. Its been done to death. resurrected and beaten to death again multiple times and raked over the coals to boot. And im very cognizant of the fact that even me commenting in a negative way to you about it (Hence my apology) does not get us anywhere closer to moving this sim forward.

Most of us all agree that the WX is crucial that is not in question for most simmers .. So it follows that if you are the only one reporting an issue at the moment then you probably should come up with a little more objective reproducible detailed information and evidence of a bug/issue rather than coming on Avsim posting "Wazzzap with MSFS and weather" and post your findings in the MSFS beta chat at the least.

But hey you are free to do what you please.

That's it from me on this topic and thread rest assured.
