April 18, 20251 yr But it might not do anything, I can't be sure because I can't use openXRtoolkit any more (I have to figure out how I messed it up). So I can't read my fps in VR. Anyway, the method is to turn on FG for VR in usercfg.opt (because you can't do it in msfs options in the sim). =>> Never edit usercfg.opt while msfs in running, it will reset all your options in the sim 😞 1 Open msfg 2024, or I suppose it will work in 2020 too, and go to msfs options and turn on FG in the general tab (not the VR tab). And if you use dlss for the FG then turn FG on choosing NVIDIA DLSS, and be sure to now close msfs. And usercfg.opt will now have changed by the sim to these lines: FrameGeneration DLSSG and FrameGenerationVR OFF 2 Edit usercfg.opt with notepad to read this: FrameGeneration DLSSG and FrameGenerationVR DLSSG 3 restart msfs 2024 and fly. If you have openxrtoolkit, you may now show more fps. I'm not sure. I used this method, and it looked like an improvement, but I can't be sure if anything actually changed in performance, but the .opt file keeps on showing DLSSG in the VR FG line of the file. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Have you tried uninstalling the toolkit and reinstalling it. I had to do this recently and it worked fine. The registry got messed up and the reinstall fixed it. Mike Beckwith
April 18, 20251 yr Author Yes, I tried that using paid version iobit uninstaller which removes all traces, including what's in the registry, and reinstalled it. It still doesn't work. As soon as I turn on toolkit the screen shrinks to a tiny size in the VR headset. I think there's a setting wrong in the toolkit. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. "I'm not sure." I am. 😀 p.s. if you can not use other tools to display fps, you could always turn DEV MODE on and have it display fps. It displays fine and I can see it in 2D. But I managed to fix OXRtoolkit, my going to MENU | RESTORE DEFAULTS. I had to go there blind because I could not see the menu while navigating to that spot in the menu. But finally I got there by trial and error, It took me 2 hours. April 19, 20251 yr your thread title is misleading because it does not work in vr, and hasn't for the last 5 years. rather: "how to turn FG ON and why it still doesn't work because of excessive latency, according to NVidia" AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler. 60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking. very nice.
April 19, 20251 yr I think this may be a classic example of a naming convention lost in translation, FrameGen has never worked in VR so maybe they mean something else. April 19, 20251 yr Author The bottom line. turning on FG in usercfg.opt does not increase fps. But it does cause instability, i.e. suddenly all controllers will stop working and frame rates will drop drastically. It comes and goes. So I had to turn it back OFF in usercfg.opt. Off topic, but performance is up in the latest beta. I think it is almost ready to go official. Using mouse and EFB is not a problem in VR in the latest beta. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. If it was available all of a sudden, don't you think Microsoft would have made a huge announcement? Nvidia said FG in VR is not possible due to too much latency. I don't know why he started this and even talks about improved fps. complete bogus.
