F1 Airports Which Barcelona, MK or Sim wings?

Featured Replies

Trying to round out my F1 airport collection in the sales.  So far I have OMDB, YMML, ZSPD, RJAA but looking to add:

WSSS as well as Singapore downtown

CYTZ

EBBR

EHAM

LOWI

but I see two options for Barcelona, MK or Sim Wings, what do people suggest?

Still looking for Hungary, Azerbaijan, Mexico and Qatar as well as Jeddah.

I have the MK Studios version, and it is excellent. I have no idea how good the SimWings version is.

The MK version is 20% off at Contrail right now which makes it about CDN$12 cheaper than Simwings.  Any review I’ve read has said they’re quite comparable but with their own pros and cons.  With the price difference I’m going to pick up the MK version to replace the LVFR version I have.

Thanks @Christopher Low and @regis9

I don't have anything from MK so was a bit unsure but if Christopher gives it the thumbs up it must have good attention to detail!

I have a bunch from MK and they’re generally pretty good.

Cool idea to follow the F1 season around, nice way to see the world!  What aircraft are you using?

Thanks Dave,

It's had me explore some fascinating routes I wouldn't have ever thought of otherwise like this one for example:

Another fascinating one was YMML-ZSPD.  Sometimes I will return to my home base at KEWR which also meant doing KEWR-RJAA which takes you into the Arctic and across Alaska, another fascinating route.

I'm using predominantly the 777 for the long hauls then the HPG to explore the tracks up close and then I will sub the 737 for the 777 if need-be but so far the 777 has handled everything for me.

Going to use the sales to stock up on the rest of the destinations for the season LOL...

In my opinion, MK Studios are now one of the top airport developers. I have just purchased their LSZH Zurich, so I am looking forward to poking around there soon

LOWI is a bit ... marginal ... for a 777 lol. If you're looking to "attend" the Austrian GP, I'd pick LOWG instead. ORBX has it. Or there's pretty good LOXZ available on flightsim.to. It's right in Zeltweg, where the GP course is.

Awesome, when it's time to fly to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix, the MK Studios version of CYUL is definitely the best one for that stop!  I saw you mentioned CYTZ, but that will land you a long ways from the Grand Prix, and I suspect your 777 will be in Lake Ontario 😉

During a recent sale, I initially purchased the Sim Wings version of LEBL, but my now low-end system struggled to generate a sufficient frame rate when paired with the FENIX. So I also purchased the MK version during the same sale, and the performance is better on my system. I imagine the differences might not be that significant on more powerful systems. In my opinion, both versions are of equal quality; I personally prefer the way the Sim Wings version blends into the surrounding standard scenery, but that's definitely a matter of taste. I am still on 2020, so '24 might be different in that regard.

Wow, lots of support for MK!
Thank you Gunther, I got LOWG as well as OTHH from Orbx!

@regis9 not sure why I was thinking of Toronto and especially Billy Bishop but could be fun to try LOL!!  Thanks for the correction!   I also got MK LEBL and CYUL and then EHAM, EBBR, WSSS

That leaves me needing MMMX which is on Simmarket but what is the closest large airport to Monza, where can I put my 777 for Monaco and anyone have any suggestions for Hungaroring?

🙂

Closest major airport to Monza is LIML Milan Linate (around eight miles)

Closest major airport to the Hungaroring is LHBP Budapest Ferenc Liszt (approximately ten miles)

I assume that the closest major airport to Monaco would be LFMN Nice Cote D'Azur (I would love to see a really good version of this one)
