  • That is a good decision too! The modest gain from 4090 to 5090 can be a bit hard to justify.    I had some blurry tape digits issue with 4090/DSLL, but still acceptable. With 5090 the blur

Just saw this post at MSFS forum and it seems that he got exactly the same performance lift of ~10 fps increase in VR as I did with 4090->5090 upgrade:

"... actually see an uplift of about 8 fps at eglc to 68-70 in 2D and an uplift of 10 fps from 48 to 58. **has 10 fps been the avg for those switching from 4090 to 5090 (og crystal at native res)?"

The 10 fps is almost irrelevant, it is the percentage of uplift you need to consider i.e. 48 to 58 is almost a 21% increase. In my scenario I was seeing a 28% increase. In some scenarios it may be more or less.

It also heavily depends on the settings and locations. I think anywhere between a 20%-30% increase is pretty much in the ball park. Since 4090 hovers around 35-45 fps in VR (at least to my experiences), that translates to approximately ~10 fps increase.

I'm now debating whether I should upgrade to 9800X3D/9950X3D. I'm not convinced yet whether the benefit will be that noticeable over my 7950X3D. Ideally I want to wait for the next generation X3D.

I saw a noticeable, albeit not massive jump, going from the 7800X3D to the 9800X3D. If you want gain any increase at all it is worth it. If you are happy for now, it may be worth holding out. Having said that, the 5090 really does benefit from the 9000X3D series.

Great to know that! Now I got kicked over the fence again ... 🤣

Did you upgrade the CPU only or you replace the motherboard too? I know my current AM5 motherboard can support 9800X3D after a BIOS flash, but don't know how much pain would be associated with using the same motherboard.

Same motherboard, just flashed to the latest BIOS, updated AMD chipset software then a straight swap of the CPU.

AJ - have you down-scaled the image at all or are you running the PP app and the in game settings at 100%?

Cheers

I’ll check, but it’s still the same as the longish thread I did a few months ago ‘At last starting to get somewhere…’. I have PP on modest settings to keep the frame rate, but get the sharpness by upping the render per eye values in Openxr Toolkit

With a HP G2, I am getting dxgi_error_device_hung when loading a free flight in FS20 worse than never, testing a new stock Nvidia 5090, FS24 the same but at least I can fly a bit of minutes more, aaaaaaaand I can´t go to previous more stable drivers like before with the 4090 that had CTD, but much more less because the 5000 has black screens a I don´t remember what more if not recent drivers. What an enormous pile of p00, I don´t know sure the culprit or culprits.

And yes, from 4090 to a 5090, I am thinking that what you can do is raise the clouds from high to ultra e.g., and that is the difference, a bit expensive the notch up.

Hope they can improve drivers and simulators....

I finally finished the 9950X3D upgrade. It was a painful journey due to, so unfortunately, my E: drive which was a SATA SSD drive decided to act up during the upgrade, dragging me through many frustrating hours of BIOS booting failure, windows booting failure, long freezes etc. Eventually I was able to trace all the headache to this word not allowed old SSD drive and removed it.

Had to reinstall MSFS2024 as I happened to install it on the bad SSD drive. Reinstallation from XBox app was a breeze. Gave 2024 a quick run in VR and seems I definitely gained some fps, maybe by ~5. Just able to confirm everything appears working again. Will test more.

The solution was yes, reverting to 572.83 have solved it like before with the 4090 and now with the 5090, to the previous more stable in FS24 and FS20, though I don´t recommend it for the black screens maybe, I have a copy to restore and the iGPU, and starting the SO with the iGPU, change the NVIDIA driver, hope all go well.
