Should have stuck with Nvidia

IMO. Get an AMD Processor, stay with Nvidia for GPU. A deadly combo!

A quick visit to Nvidia's GRD Forums still has plenty of people complaining about issues that apparently only affect 50 series cards. But it's not only the 50 series... I still have issues with my 3090 that only cropped up when the 50 series and their accompanying driver was released. I'm not talking MSFS specific issues, I'm talking other game or even system-wide specific issues. They supposedly fixed an issue with monitors connected via DisplayPort losing connection momentarily. Nope, not fixed. I haven't been able to watch multiple Twitch streams at a time since the 366 drivers without browsers locking up until I move one of the windows (apparently a driver-related MPO issue that has existed in some state or form with Nvidia cards ever since MS introduced MPO years ago). Who knows if that one will ever be fixed. The list goes on with other game regressions and quirks that didn't exist when Nvidia had better quality control.

I was getting the same issue with my 3090, so switched to hdmi for now.

Hopefully they will sort drivers before I lay down some cash on a 5080super or even the 5090 later this year.

In 2020, I disable all the AMD stuff and use Lossless Scaling. In 2024, I use FSR 3 (TAA in both). No visual issues here at 1440p, and more than satisfied with the value for money I've got from the 7900 XT since I bought it 2 years ago.

Getting a significant performance boost over a 3080 is going to be more expensive than a 7900 XT released in Nov 2022.

To get more than 16 GB of VRAM, the only upgrade path I'd currently consider from my 7900 XT is the 5090 at £2,500, so I'm just going to wait and see what comes next.

Lookin at Amazon usa right now:

rtx7900xtx cheapest is $999.

rtx7900xt cheapest is $649

These are cheaper than what they were awhile ago.

I didn’t find advantage to the xtx since I only use 2020. If I was 2024 user definitely would go for xtx.

This is where I am also. 5090 or similar is in future but not at current prices. I can afford it but not going to pay current outrageous price.

AMD's roadmap means nVidia has no competition at the 5090 level, so I can't see that price dropping anytime soon 😞

With Nvidia showing no interest in gamers and concentrating everything on their corporate AI customers the prices might never come down especially as long as AMD lags at the highest end.

Yes it is completely cleaned up. Not anything that even begins with an N on my system. Driver and bios are the latest, and I have watched and read endlessly about cleaning up Nvidia leftovers and AMD configuration from people that seem to have experience. Totally agree with you that Nvidia is all in for the big AI customers now, and treating their long time loyal base like word not allowed. One of the reasons I skipped on them this time around. Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate it! Thanks also to LRBS!

I see a couple people like maxis, acting like a minimus, claiming that I probably don’t know what I am doing, having had their feelings hurt because they have AMD cards, but sorry children, I am not new to this, and I am talking about a video card not your mommy so relax.

Sir you jumped on here venting about you can’t get your hardware to work.

Didn’t  post your full pc specs

Didnt share anything much regarding sim or driver settings

stated your monitor was 4k ultra (monitors are 4k not ultra)

Didn’t fully describe the error and proceeded to commiserate with others who agreed with your position.  Even though others including myself have been using both Nvidia and Amd GPU products successfully on FS2020  for the last 4 years and even stayed with them  for the new sim when I had the option to switch GPUs just 2 months ago.

People posting on here just to vent and not fully describe the problem with detail of their spec, system config and what they are looking to achieve is indeed triggering for me as someone who builds upgrades and configure pcs regularly.

My question (and i truly did hesitate before posting based on your initial post) was to see if you were upset that you were not getting the result you wanted and me giving you the option to put your hand up and say "Yeah im upset now  but maybe i could use some help". I guess you chose an alternate response to assume everyone is a word not allowed and only responded in order to take a dig. Which you certainly decided to do with the playground level name calling.. ironic huh ?

But hey this “minimus child” will leave you and the adults to your own devices to continue with what you are doing.

good luck.

Please enlighten me - no issues here with the last 3- 4 driver updates ???

nVidia 5090 has issues at various locations in MSFS 2024 that are NOT present on AMD GPUs.  At first I thought it was an airport issue (but after uninstalling and trying other airports including default, the texture corruption problem persisted.  I brought this to MS/Asobo attention (seems to be related to LOD and Zoom levels):

And with AMD GPU, same location

There are also other issues with nVidia drivers (including the latest 576.88):

  • AOE IV CTDs on start (no solution yet)
  • Black screen caused by the drivers defaulting to very high refresh (240Hz) rate not supported by the users monitor and/or those using HDMI splitters (120hz max).

Fortunately my 5090 has all it's ROPS and hasn't melted my power cables but it is running at 600+ watts most of the time during MSFS 2024.
