Copied from another site! (apologies to Bernard)

'I really don't know what the point of the initial question is. You either sign up and make a judgment, or you don't bother. Nothing is simpler than that. In addition, it is a forum that is mostly run in German, which makes it rather difficult to get any opinions here. '

I used Edge translate to translate from German.

I signed up, as any Fs2004 forum is worth looking at!

We’ve received a complaint from a moderator of that forum about this topic.

Why is a reference being made to a German forum for such an old sim? @PebbleBeach, an answer would be appreciated please.

Ray,

Well imagine that. I'm not at all surprised. Tell him to rest easy. I was just curious what others thought. It is a great forum which shares very helpful ideas about our beloved FS9. In fact, my intent was to drive more traffic their way and hopefully lead to sharing mutual ideas across multiple forum platforms. FS9 is alive and well and their forum is proof to my point. And Wobble, translation is very easy on that site as the forum software easily provides for this in the upper menu bar.

Other than one individual there with questionable, and demeaning intent towards US Citizens, the site includes some of the best FS9 software authors on the planet. My opinion.

Honestly, I have learned quite a bit from members that frequent that site. Many I know outside of that site. All in all, I believe we all would benefit from combining our efforts in making FS9 better than we have already done so in the year 2025.

@Dedl, I won’t be taking any action over your report. If you wish to interact with @PebbleBeachover this please do so keeping in mind our forum rules.

@PebbleBeach, I’m surprised there’s still a following for such an old sim. You learn something new every day.

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

Given it was released 22 years ago, no I’m not.

Maybe not here on Avsim, but quite well supported on other forums, including a new FS2004 Retro forum, complete with quite a few Retro sceneries, flights & documents. Also, aircraft are still being released on other sites as well, so - support from developers as well as us FS9'ers!!

Shows how good FS9 still is that people still development add-ons for it. It's hard to beat as a sim. I can't think of any that are better.

It’s problem is it’s a 32-bit application so even with a powerful PC you can increase settings much as you run out of VAS. I had the same problem with P3Dv3.

Hi Ray,

I am not a supporter of the "my simulator is better than yours" discussions that seem to dominate some forums, but you can be assured that FS2004, if well managed, will give hours of endless pleasure without running out of VAS. A reasonably modern computer, not needing to be high-spec, runs it nicely.

That doesn't mean it is the best flight simulator in the world, but I hang onto it for a very good reason - an extreme eyesight issue causes me to get unpleasantly disorientated if using Virtual Cockpits.

There may not be many posts on forums such as these, but perhaps that's because most of what there is to say has already been said. But that doesn't mean this simulator isn't used or loved any more. I usually check in daily and expect others do too.

Best regards,

John

Can't even spell disorientated!

I've not had any issues with running out of VAS. So, for me, never an issue with running a 32 bit program within a 64 bit operating system.

As John rightly says, everything has been said before.

And yes, I do check in daily, to this, and quite a few other sites that support our beloved sim. After 22 years, we have not been forgotten!

I remember hearing about them around the late FSX days. I don't remember reading about that for FS9. Maybe because it's not as loaded as FSX or P3Dv3?

And yes, I also fly in FS9. Not as frequently as MSFS or P3Dv5, but I manage to do at least a weekly flight in my laptop.
