Dual view : 4090 to 5090 ?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Fs24 is looking great as I want it. I use AutoFPS which helps a lot with getting the best performance.

But yesterday when taxiing at FT Amsterdam Schiphol and I passed the D terminal with at least 10 planes parked and moving ( RealTraffic + PSXT ) I saw a few stutters. Total planes 34.

So I checked abd the Renderthread and it showed 33-42 !

More than enough VRAM but the GPU load of the 4090 was 96%.

Afer take off I flew over Amsterdam and the Renderthread dropped to 15 but the GPU load was still high with 93%.

Keep in mind that my server drives  2 4K views at 60 hertz ( Sony Bravia 4K tv’s )

I have set a fixed framerate of 30 inside MS24 + FG.

As only the main front view uses FG to double the framerate , I also uses Lossless Scaling to double the framerate on the extra Right view too.

I was wondering if a 5090 would be able to get the GPU load down to 80-85% under the same circumstances. To avoid those few stutters.

Otherwise I would need to put an extra 4090 in the server for the second 4K tv.

Haha, I literally JUST traded in my 4090 on Newegg for a Zotac 5090 for $2,499! That's as low as I have seen them even with the sales.

I was about to post the same question but Newegg did a guaranteed trade-in of $1600 for the 4090 so for me the $900 made it worthwhile...  They are going for a bit more used on EBay but doing it all with Newegg and having a guaranteed trade in price was worth the difference.  For sub 1K it was almost a no brainer to go to 32GB VRAM and the 5K series. (for me)

Well done.

I am curieus to know how much difference you will see in total Load percentage and in Renderthread ms.

With 2 4k display you are always going to be GPU limited regardless of the GPU used, the 5090 might net you more frames which will allow you to keep the same FPS limit with a little less GPU load.

Also remember with lossless scaling that you will lose a little but of base FPS, there is a cool thing with lossless scaling that if you use 2 GPU's you can have frame gen running on only the 2nd GPU which doesn't cause a loss of the base FPS on the render card.

On my system LS only multiplies the framerate on the screen where it runs.

So as FG doubles it in the main screen , LS doubles it on the right screen.

But it Isn’t perfect : sometimes the stripes on the centerline shimmer on both screens when LS is running in LS1 mode. In FSR mode all is good but it is less s smooth under load.

It's wild that hardware is somewhat still behind using ultra settings and has to finagle with DSL and Lossless scaling.

Thus as it ever was, from day 1 of the first ever consumer grade Flight Sim (subLogic Flight Simulator 1) to now, and likely to remain true for the future.

GSalden, do you know what spec GPU you would need to run just 1 x 4k monitor and achieve the frame rates you are experiencing now?

If so, I wonder, if such a card is relatively cheap enough (compared to a new 5090), perhaps setting up a 3rd computer, with 1 screen per system might give better overall performance for similar amount of money.
1 x 4K screen per system would mean each system could run native FG without having to resort to using lossless scaling app in addition.

You are correct that a third pc would make the difference I need. My Left view pc has no issues with its 4080 card and 1x 4K.

Already I need to upgrade 2 pc’s in the future and that is always quite expensive.

The Main thread is capable of doing 16-22 ms all the time.
It is the Render thread that can go up to 40 ms at a large airport with many live / parked planes, which are onscreen at that moment. The renderthread refers to the process that handles the visual rendering of the game world.  And then the GPU has to process all data coming from the Renderthread.

As I have a 13900K @ 5.3-5.5 GHz a 14900K would make no difference.

Only a 5090 could make a difference but reading many comparison Posts the performance difference is 12-20% in daily use.  Perhaps I could get load below 90%, but the Renderthread would still be high.

Sure I could dial back the amount of Live Traffic and the Max TLOD of 200, but in 95% of the flighttime I see a smooth flight.

For what its worth mate, I've got a 5090 powering 3 x 4K TV's - The system maintains 30 FPS in relatively heavy scenarios (EGLL w/ 50 AI Traffic) and i use FSR FG to double the FPS across all three monitors. Whilst hat DLSS will only work on one (the primary) display, FSR will work on all displays (so you could ditch your lossless scaling and DLSS and just see the same result from MSFS 2024 with FSR.

I went from a 4090 to the 5090 and saw around 20-30% reduction in GPU timings per the in game dev mode counter. With the 4090 I was able to maintain high 20's FPS at places like EGLL whereas with the 5090 it sits comfortable at 35ish without issue.

It's entirely normal that the sim architecture design means that it is capable of being more performant that current tech allows.  It's called future proofing and we should be worried if it wasn't!

Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS

I can say consistently the best performance I get in every sim version is usually years after the next one was released...

ie.  FS9 for me was in it's hardware Glory days during P3D and P3D had it's hardware glory day years after MSFS was released which is why I usually stay on the preceding version for a few years after a successor is released.

No different with MSFS, their have been some hiccups but in general MSFS 2020 has never been better than during/after the 2024 release LOL.

Thanks for the info.

I see slightly lower framerate using FSR in MS24 for both 4K monitors than using FG for the frontview monitor + LS FSR for the Rightview.

The Renderthread needs to come down first on my system and it is a bit better when limiting the AIG/Fs Traffic planes in PSXT.
