September 1, 2025Sep 1 Interesting..... I did note the long wait to get to the gate after landing when I flew into there recently (From Disney) but didn't think much of it. I was too interested in the planes landing one after the other behind us like a busy conveyer line. When simming, I do kind of dislike waiting to cross runways there as fshud tends to allow everyone and their dog to take off before granting permission, and also, Drzewiecki Designs KEWR is about as heavy on ones graphics card as anything in the sim, but I still like it, maybe because I use the place in real life. Anyway, the video gives lots of information I never considered before about the complicated ballet at these places. Now of course, I want to start up the sim and do a KBOS/KEWR run..... We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. September 1, 2025Sep 1 It is fascinating driving on the New Jersey turnpike and watching the endless stream of aircraft preparing to land. As far as the eye can see there is a line of aircraft on approach. "Conveyor line" is the perfect term for it. We have flown in and out of there a few times, can't remember any bad experiences. September 1, 2025Sep 1 I spent 10+ years at EWR as Continental's ATC liaison director to FAA. That video is quite good and comprehensive.
September 2, 2025Sep 2 As someone who works there currently and lived around it for years, I would say the video is pretty good. "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
September 3, 2025Sep 3 I used to take the jumbo in there years ago and man it was hard work. I remember the old captains saying this airport wasn’t designed for 747s Went in one dark stormy night and flew the 22 ILS with a circle onto 11 😵💫 Next time I went in on a similar dark and stormy night I said to the controller, never mind I’ll continue and land on 22, it was about a 30kt cross wind but it was way easier! The funny thing was everyone behind me after they heard me land on the 22s did the same. We still get flight planned with EWR as the primary alternate for JFK, just watching that video has reminded me what a bad idea that is, I’d head for KBDL or KSWF instead I think if it came to it. 787 captain. September 3, 2025Sep 3 What’s terrible about EWR is showing up still hammered drunk from your wedding in The City that only ended a few hours ago for an early a.m. flight, having that flight get canceled, knowing you have to do something else because the cruise ship in FL isn’t going to wait for you, pulling favors from your UAL flight crew parents, having THEM pull favors, and finally finding a Continental flight to MCO with just enough time to make it, RUNNING full tilt through the concourses to make the various trains, and then being informed that First Class seats are all that’s left… We skipped the boarding cocktail, but the champagne glass of chilled OJ and those big comfy seats suddenly made it all seem “worth it” 🤪
