Hi Bob, sure, tried that. 6 hours ago, TheFamilyMan said: This MSFS 2020 switching DX12 to DX11 problem is well known. It seems to be caused by the nvidia app. Some have solved the problem by simply unistalling it. For me, had to both uninstall it and run DDU to clear our the nvidia driver tainted by the app. After running DDU and installing an nvidia driver without the accompanying app, MSFS 2020 DX11 worked fine again. I will try this today and also go back to DX12, at least try and get the sim working! September 18, 2025Sep 18 Author Hey guys, it looks like I may have things sorted. Uninstalled via DDU, including the app and reinstalled a previous driver without the app. So far, after three flights, all seems to be OK. I wanted to try with DX11, but I think I'll just leave things as they are at the moment with DX12 and see how things go. Maybe this is one of the unstable scenarios that are to be expected with DX12 beta(?) Thanks for all for help and advice, appreciated guys. September 18, 2025Sep 18 In my experience, if I use any driver newer than 572.83 with DX11 and DLSS I get the "driver hung" crash. If I don't use DLSS I can use the newer drivers, but the trade-off in loss of performance isn't worth it. I have a 4 year old AMD 5600X with a 3070 card and 32GB of RAM, running at 4K. Dave
September 18, 2025Sep 18 After I restored DX11 for MSFS, I switched back to DX12 after a few days. I just tried switching back to DX11 again and the MSFS 2020 loading crash occurred. It didn't matter if the dxcache was cleared beforehand, and switching back to DX12 via user.cfg worked fine. Currently using the nvidia driver 580.88. So it also seems it's a driver related issue too, which sort of sucks since each side can complain it's the other side's problem. Glad I have no issues using DX12. Edit: Kudos to mikeymike, the 577.00 driver completely fixes the problem for me, no DDU required, but I did not load the nvidia app either (though I usually don't). September 19, 2025Sep 19 For what it's worth, I've only see a need to use DDU when swapping from Nvidia to AMD GPU's or visa versa but, and no issues using the Nvidia APP for at least the past 18+ months. Only time the Nvidia app was a problem was when it was in early beta. Currently on the current 581.29 with an RTX 4080 and no issues in MSFS 2020 or 2024 both running DLSS 310.4. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
