Very interesting article.  Thanks Martin.  Did they say where the location will be, or did I just miss it?

They don't give us any idea re the numbers though, how much its estimated to cost, how much cheaper than conventional nuclear and other sources of power. So I'll reserve judgement.

Gyrotron tech to sink 20km  bores holes for geothermal pretty much anywhere is still my favorite.

They do mention a reduction in cost of about 80% compared to surface reactors, as well as an electricity cost of 5-7 cents per kWh.  Talk is cheap, however, so of course we should remain somewhat skeptical.

I'm also comparing energy production of this type, IE nuclear, to other much less efficient and more expensive boondoggles that have come and gone over the past 15 years or so.

The geothermal projects are definitely worth the time and effort IMO.

Especially this one. They can drill pretty much anywhere, no need for specific suitable locations. Quaise plan to repurpose existing fossil fuel plants. They plan to have the first super hot geothermal power plant operation within the next couple of years.
