October 3, 2025Oct 3 Hello, my current GPU is a Radeon RX 6600. For some reason, when I run MSFS 2024, the hotspot temperature on my GPU jumps as high as 224°F, even when I'm just in the main menu, and I'm unsure what is causing it. The weird thing is, I can load 2020 at KLAX in the PMDG 777, and yet the GPU temp stays around only 130-140°F even after a few minutes, but if I load 2024, it seems to immediately cause the temp to jump, which I can feel coming from the PC and will drop immediately as soon as I exit the game. I know logic would suggest that it could be a problem with the thermal paste not being as effective on the heatsink for the GPU, but I don't get why the problem doesn't happen in 2020 as well, since the temps don't get anywhere near as hot. Any suggestions? Thanks Jason Thiers
October 24, 2025Oct 24 As I have an nvidia card I cannot say exactly but there are two things you can try. Besides adding more fans to improve airflow. Again for nvidia there are programs like MSI afterburner and EVGA precision which allow you to manually adjust your fan speed on the GPU, also you can take it a step further and limit the power setting to 80-90% This should still provide the HP to use the sim without overheating the card. I use 90% myself just to keep the temps in the 60c range. I have a large case with lots of fans, so no real problem anyway. But do a search and see if you can find anything, I think afterburner will work on AMD also. October 25, 2025Oct 25 Are you running MSFS with framerate unlocked? This may cause some overheat. December 25, 2025Dec 25 MSI Afterburner has a new interface GUI, and so many old YT videos are obsolete. Here is how to undervolt using the new MSI AB GUI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KTEIKWxF0I Here is how to increase fan speed, don't go wild, just move the tiny points on the graph upward. First you must tic the box that is shown at start of the video below (it is the older GUI). Ticking the box is a fast one step solution. Then moving the points up a little will cause the fan speeds to increase at the temperature points. (It takes careful mouse position to select the little points) 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. December 25, 2025Dec 25 In the "curve editor" screen (clock speed vs. temperature) it is hard to point the mouse exactly at the tiny dots on the graph lines. Here's the tip: use the mouse to click on one point (it might take awhile to find the exact mouse position). Then use Tab or Shift+Tab to move to the next point right or next point left. At each point use the up or down arrow key to move the point up or down, which moves the line on the graph. A smooth curved graph is best, rather than a sharp zig zag pattern. The points to move are the points near the clock frequencies that msfs is using on your gpu while msfs is running. Go back to the main screen and click on SAVE to lock in the new graph. Moving the graph points downward will reduce voltages and temperatures but will slightly decrease performance. December 25, 2025Dec 25 There are 2 Prioritize icons on the MSI AB main screen a lightning bolt (on the left) and a thermometer (on the right). This is to tell AB to prioritize either higher performance or lower temperatures. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
