Kinda.

There are a lot of commands that were changed in v6 that make it difficult to accurately build a scenery.  I'd been a long time user of ADE and gave up in frustration.

ADE has not been updated to be compatible with P3Dv6, and ScruffyDuck has retired and nobody else has taken over the development of this utility as far as I am aware, so I don't think this is possible.

I get the occasional question on this in the FSUIPC forums, e.g. https://forum.simflight.com/topic/99773-fsuipc6-will-not-connect/

I would be happy to be proved wrong!

Regards,

John

If I install V5 version of p3d next to v6 and get the V6 version of these airports moved to the V5 files????

Do I have a chance?

Or an other idea...

No one has taken over development because Scruffyduck won't allow it.

I offered to work on it to see if I could make it work with P3Dv6 but he flatly and selfishly refused.

Yes, it is possible and I use it to make P3Dv6 airports.

However, it has its flaws and shortcomings, the main one being that ADE for P3Dv5 doesn't display or compile the P3Dv6 taxi signs.  It also won't recognize many P3Dv6 buildings and objects.

It's sad because this would be a pretty simple fix/upgrade, but the developer retired and won't teach anyone else how to update ADE.

That’s very sad to read. One of the main reasons why I stay with P3Dv5. It’s not just the sim that matters. It’s the infrastructure behind it too.

ScruffyDuck developed ADE, offered it to all of us for free, and then retired.

To say he is being selfish detracts from the years of tireless support he gave the thousands of us who have used ADE through the years.

With his retirement, he made a decision not to allow continued development. I believe we all should respect his decision.

If people don't like it, then they can put thousands of hours into developing a "free" application for public use, and then sit back and have everyone tell you what's wrong with it and how they could do better if you'd allow it.

Again, this is my opinion, which may or may not reflect the opinion of others.

And I think we all appreciate his work developing and supporting ADE for years.  This doesn't change the fact that the developer of ADE refuses to let anyone else take over development of it even though he retired.  Does he plan on taking ADE to his grave?  He is being selfish IMO.

I have spent hundreds of hours working on planes and scenery and never asked for any money, unlike most flightsim developers.  If I "retire" from working on this stuff, I would happily give it all to someone else to develop further if they wish.

John Decker did the same with Radar Contact v4. We were working on v5 when he pulled the plug because his wife had regained good health and he wanted to enjoy time with her instead of coding.

Fully understandable but a pity he deleted the source code preventing any further development. 😟

I can't imagine NOT giving it to someone to carry the torch. This is the literal definition of Legacy.

He must have had his reasons. He and Doug did make it available for free and reimbursed those who had bought it in the previous three months. Not so selfish.

That's like giving free admission to the library for three months before you burn it to the ground.

Part of the reason why flightsim is prone to such fits and starts and never truly builds something great is that it's a collection of small parochial creators, who when they inevitably move on destroy what that have built (through inaction) rather than allowing others to build on top of it.

What was it that Newton said about standing on the shoulders of giants?
