Re "These screenshots are from IMGUR. How do I post them Here then?"

I switched to https://postimages.org/

Very intuitive interface - no sign up required, seems to work fine in the UK

Hi, I joined for free and upload an image of the Apollo astronauts as a test. Then when I click on it, it gives me a bunch of choices as to what format. To post an image here, what do I select? Thanks.

Hi Jack:

Yes, nice freeware site to use. Just use the 2nd link in the list over there... (called "Direct Link") ...e.g., for my uploaded png screenshot, starting with "https" and ending in "png". See below.

Cheers...!

Always appreciated guys, thanks!

On another note, I haven't made one single flight in 2024 yet as I've been spending all my time downloading files. I bought the top version, I think premium and it's been downloading something north of 1600 files and then I have to install them all. Just like in 2020.

Er.....not sure if that's right?

Hmm...Jack, that does not sound right.

Actually, in my case (Xbox) it definitely did not take that long to install MSFS2024 (on the 2nd day following that first day of woes with download...).

It's almost automatic. For one thing, with streaming, from now on, you will have to think differently than conventional downloads.

See the total size of the base installation and then watch the progress bar. My memory is failing a bit after more than one year, but someone here, who installed recently, may comment...

Good luck...!

These are base upgrades, world updates, city updates, and aircraft installations.

Very true, Jack. Give it some time then...

My first MSFS2024 installation was devoid of all the subsequent World (and City) Updates...🙂...

Good luck.

Suggest when you initially set it up in "General", try setting the Custom settings to High & Medium rather than Ultra. This will give your system a chance to bed down & not constipate itself if everything is on Ultra. There are a lot of good UTube videos on how to set up MSFS 2024, they can take you through step by step.

Patience is required initially Jack, we know you have that in abundance.😄

Find an aircraft you like & fly he wings off it to learn it & MSFS 2024.

I just fly Free Flight but there many challenges & other stuff you can do, if so inclined.

Good luck

Any YT links?

I used to fly in real life and worked for DAL as a mechanic/avionics tech for decades. The only planes I have ever been interested in are A2A's and PMDG's. In 2020 I was flying the heck out of the Aerostar, I like that plane a lot.

When I first installed 2024 the other day it set it to what you describe, high & medium.

I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions especially about binding my flight controls as I read horror stories that I have to have separate settings per livery? Not global like in 2020?

Don't believe 99% of the horror stories you read. I set up my controls over a year ago now, and have literally never touched them since. I fly GA, Airliners.. everything except helicopters (I would need to do some changes to settings to that, to be fair).

You CAN have separate controls for each plane if you like (which is kinda great when you think about it). Or else you can have a set of controls for GA and one for Airliners. Or else you can do what I do, and have one universal set of controls and just fly all planes with it.

I have a keyboard, mouse, Xbox Controller, Microsoft Force Feedback 2 Joystick, Honeycomb Bravo all set up and working great. I literally haven't looked at the controls in months and months.

Remember that most people that are flying happily do not usually come to the forums to say that.. it's the people that have issues that come. The issues are caused by

1. User Error
2. Learning something new and complex
3. Bugs
4. Design decisions that aren't bugs but are hard to grasp
5. Hardware issues
6. Network issues

and I'm sure there are more. Point it, only a portion of the complaints are due to the sim actually being bad. Of course there are bugs and so forth, no one says it's perfect. But not EVERY complaint can be laid at the feet of the sim.

Heck, if you read enough threads here, you'll easily be able to see people that were frustrated because of one of these reasons and then got happy when that issue got resolved. Then there are some people that just personally hate MSFS 2024.. less said about that the better.

The only important thing is - are you having fun? The sim is now very good and getting better, so you should be having fun (assuming some hardware/sim bug isn't destroying your experience).

Yes all those work fine. Try searching on YouTube, there are quite a few people that have set lots of different yokes  up in different ways. Try out a few configs and see which way works for you.

See below. Not the same yoke but the principles are the same.
