FS2024 New user Extremally poor performance

Featured Replies

Guys, this is not normal for the A350 anymore. I have a much weaker system (4070, i7) with only 12 GB VRAM and after the big performance update for the A350 a couple of weeks ago, the A350 is very smooth for me (still a tad worse than others, but totally fine). Using 2k, TLOD 200 and clouds ultra.

Result: I get double the FPS of the OP. So there's something else wrong here. The experience of the OP is what I had on SU3 before the A350 performance update, but definitely not on SU4 and even less so after the performance update. And again with a much weaker system.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

  • Your fps counter clearly shows the problem: you almost over the GPU VRAM budget ( see the yellow message ), because your settings are too high and you are close to VRAM exhaustion and when that happen

  • Just ran through this and the results seem promising. I also disabled Smooth motion in the Nvidia app and re-enabled frame generation in the sim. A350 on the ground at KMIA with loads of AI traffic. N

  • Do you really have the monitor plugged into the 5080 and verified that you use the 5080? This looks like using the iGPU to me...

    • I still have FS2024 installed (maybe not for much longer at this rate). Been sitting here for the last 8 hours trying to get to the bottom of this. Im about to start ripping my hair out! I do have HAGS enabled.

    • Im noticing now, the sim is fine unless I start panning the camera around or moving the aircraft. At the first sign of any movement, the mainthread takes a hammering and goodbye FPS over 20.

James,

I've got a couple of suggestions for you to try that fixed all of my performance issues with MSFS2024.

#1 - If you use it, reset your rolling cache. Go into MSFS2024 settings and set the RC size to 0, note the location of the RC and exit the sim. Then, find the RC file and delete it. When you restart the sim (after performing the rest of these steps), go back to settings and create a new RC file of the size of your choosing.

#2 - Delete all of the Nvidia cached shaders.

  • Start the Nvidia Contol Panel. Under Global Settings, set the option for "Shader Cache Size" to "Off". Apply changes, and reboot your system (You can't do the next step if the driver is still using the cache folders).
  • Start File Explorer and type "%localappdata%" into the address bar and press enter. You should end up in a folder called "C:\Users\<your_user_name>\AppData\Local". Scroll down to the NVIDIA folder and delete any folders you see in there (mine has DXCache and GLCache in it - both can be deleted as they will recreate automatically whenever the Nvidia driver needs them in the future).
  • Go to your "C:\Users\<your_user_name>\AppData\Roaming\NVIDIA" folder and delete the entire ComputeCache folder.

#3 - Start the Nvidia Contol Panel again. Go to Global Settings, and set the option for "Shader Cache Size" to "Unlimited" (or pick the size of your preference). Apply changes, and reboot your system to create the new Nvidia caches and start using them.

#4 - Test the sim to see if your issue is resolved. (Remember to create a new rolling cache if you want to use one).

Just ran through this and the results seem promising. I also disabled Smooth motion in the Nvidia app and re-enabled frame generation in the sim. A350 on the ground at KMIA with loads of AI traffic. No fps drops or stuttering, even when panning. Looks like this could potentially be problem solved (fingers crossed!).

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to offer me suggestions and help. Hopefully, this thread could be of some value to someone else in the future too.

i just now completed my standard test flight. FPS was rock stable and no stutters or micro pauses. Not even on approach, while panning views, or taxiing after landing to gate.

I'm not surprised because it is now about 1pm Pacific time. I don't get stutters this time of day. This evening they will be back, as usual, and force me to reduce video option settings.

I don't know about you all, but when when stutters, flutters after panning or on approach occurs, I always blame the MS servers. When the servers are loaded with clients (people flying), performance tanks for me.

Another confirming fact: In the beta's, performance improves (there are fewer clients on the beta servers). Once the official release happens, then here come the stutters at certain time of the day or on the weekends.

Sad part is that there is no cure. The more people that buy msfs, the more crowded the servers become.

Temporary relief is on the way, when the next beta launches then I leave the mainstream and get on a clearer channel, so to speak. I feel sorry for those who never join the beta. They never see the best MSFS experience.

Do you have Comcast or a similar cable-based internet provider? This may not have anything to do with MSFS.

If you have fiber direct to home  then yeah it’s something else.

I have cable based internet 400Bps. But cloud is not cable. The cloud chokes when users are many.

My experience in all the betas has been, smooth sailing. Until release day when suddenly the airwaves are crowded again and issues reappear. When everyone on the Western USA server, leaves for work Monday thru Friday, the airwaves clear, and MSFS runs smooth. When they come home at night, performance and stability grows worse.

It is not night and day difference, but it is very noticeable in my experience.

While it might be the servers, it is more likely the fact that everyone in your neighbourhood is using more internet in the evening, and you have a shared backhaul. Common issue with Comcast users.

You may want to complain to your ISP - possible that your node is overcapacity if you see this all the time

Of course, maybe it is the connection to the MSFS servers, but realistically not much you can do about that. If, however, your node is saturated and you hassle Comcast enough.. maybe it gets fixed? Worth trying..

If this was a common issue with the "cloud" as you put it, we would all see it. But the way you describe it (everyone comes home and it slows down) points to more of a localized issue. I'm in EST and play at all hours (WFH 🙂 ) and I've never seen this. I'm on 1 Gig fiber in Toronto.

Anyway, just a thought. Do with it what you will.

Yeah, you could be right. I hadn't thought about that.
