...🙂...You said it, Jonathan, what I wished to say here...

I would also add a bit...from my Xbox experience:

"...just like in theory you can fully fly the plane with keyboard and mouse and an Xbox controller..." but an independent flight-controller hardware does the job much better...

After a little practice I prefer to fly with the XBOX controller these days.

The responsiveness is much better and way cheaper also.

An XBOX controller will spoil you really quickly.   I'm a better pilot with one.  👍

  • As said above: The drone I fly with an X-Box controller. Everything else with my sidedstick or yoke.

Hi Matt The key commands you listed should work fine to manipulate the drone camera, but allow me to make a suggestion. Consider using an X-box controller for your camera controls. I broke down a

You can move the drone camera (relative to the aircraft)! You use the WASD keys to do it.

Yes. That's right. Thank you.

Check this out.  I've been trying to buy this, but it's always sold out.

I just use the wasdqe keys for moving and the mouse for rotation.

I sim fly using a HOTAS controller with 3 hat buttons.  One hat is dedicated to moving the drone camera, and a separate button to toggle it. Clockwise motion it's up, left, down, and right translations.  Alt clockwise motion it's pitch down, yaw left, pitch up, and yaw right.  With this I can get the exact external view I want somewhat quickly, though it took a bit of practice to learn.  Being on my HOTAS it's always right there, and great in VR to get a quick outside view to admire the beauty of it all for a moment or two.

On an XBOX controller there are at least 20 drone movements / actions mapped.

Yes, that is true. In fact, I too use those Keys sometimes, though I’m an active user of the Xbox controller for such (non-pilotage) tasks.

The multi-directional flexibility of the Controller throttles etc. affords precise and fluid degrees of freedom, usually hard to achieve with Keyboard and Mouse, but I shouldn’t probably say impossible.

Whatever works for you and is proven…🙂

Yes. It's one of the best hand controllers for 2020 nd2024. Never fly without it. I own 4 of them.

I just bought the Turtle Beach Stealth Controller - wireless and has several add'l buttons.  Not cheap, but I like it a lot.

I just found out that you can slew the aircraft with the xbox controller the same way as moving the drone camera. I may never fly again 😄.

another vote for using the xbox controller for drone mode.  It's the best way to do it.
